Tips on getting this girl to quit biting me all the time

She's around 5-6 months old, full of energy. She was spayed just a week ago, so not much time to see the effects of that. She loves to play, is running around and playing with us 24/7 but we cannot seem to break her biting habit. If we try to pet her (unless she's very sleepy) she takes it as an invitation to play and bite. Any tactics that have helped you guys out?

So far, I've been trying to let her know it hurts by pulling my hand away and exaggerating an "ouch!", this sometimes works, after 4-5 Ows she'll usually bite super softly so I can tell it's just how she likes to play. Should I just keep going down this path and see if she lightens up?
