Question from a first time watcher

I just watched this movie and thought it was an absolutely beautiful story. Might be one of the best movies I’ve seen in years.

One thing I loved was Elias’s internal struggles in contrast to Alexander’s openness regarding his sexuality. But that leads me to a a question I had and I’m wondering what everyone’s opinions are.

Was Alexander being unreasonable expecting Elias to come out right away? Obviously it’s fair that he wanted to be open about his boyfriend, but I feel like he wasn’t being respectful of Elias’s boundaries at all. Personally I think if Elias wanted to stay closeted for a little longer than Alexander should have respected that.

Would it be weird if I called an elementary school I went to and asked to see a copy of a yearbook from when I was there?

So full context:

After kindergarten, instead of moving on to first grade, I was sent to “pre-first” at another elementary school in my town. I spent one year there before going back to the school I went to in kindergarten for the rest of my time in elementary school.

The pre-first class I was in had maybe 20-25 kids in it. I don’t remember anyone from this class going onto first grade with me at my other school. And as I went to middle school and high school in this same town, I never saw anyone who I recognized from my time in pre-first. While I’m sure some went to different elementary, middle and high schools in my town, statistically speaking at least a few had wind up with me in school at some point. So it begs the question, wtf ever happened to these other kids because there’s no way I never ended up in a class with any of them ever again.

I’m kind of tempted to call the school and ask if they have any yearbooks from that year. It’s from about 30 years ago so they may not even have a copy anymore but I just really want to see if I end up recognizing any names and just didn’t recognize them when I was in middle or high school. Is that too weird of a question to call a school about or should I give it a shot?

Do you think Robin ever came out to the rest of the group?

It’s probably safe to say she grew close to everyone during the 19 months between seasons 4 and 5 and may have started to feel more comfortable around them. However, it’s still the 1980s when homosexuality wasn’t as accepted as it is now. Personally, I like to think that after she saw the positive reaction to Wills coming out that she was inspired to do so herself.

A simple explanation for a big “plot hole”

So there’s one plot hole that I’ve seen people point out a lot, and it’s about how Hopper is now police chief again and how no one in Hawkins is questioning how a dead man came back to life. For a while I thought that this was a valid criticism, but I started thinking of that one and there’s probably a good explanation behind that one.

He probably just told the truth. Or at least a half truth.

After somehow getting away with everything at the end of season 5 (yeah I’ll admit this theory doesn’t explain this part) he probably just said to everyone “Remember when the Russians invaded Hawkins and had their secret base at the mall? Well I was investigating it and they kidnapped me and took me to Russia to be a prisoner and everyone just assumed I died in the fire. Fortunately I escaped and came back.”

This story is even more plausible when he leaves out the details of Demogorgons and alternate dimensions and all that stuff.

Or maybe I’m wrong. Please feel free to poke holes in this theory.

Edit: ok I can’t check right now but I remember there was a scene near the very end of the last episode of season 3 that was from a news story about all the stuff that happened over the years in Hawkins. I think I remember it saying something about Russians but I could be wrong.

If I’m wrong my new theory is he just said “Well all of you know I have military experience. The government needed me to go on a top secret mission and I needed to fake my death before doing it. It’s confidential so I can’t go into more details than that.”

Considering they just let him and the others walk after all that stuff went down in season five, I wouldn’t say it would be a humongous leap to assume the US government would help back that story.
