R3 problems with force feedback and software
Has anyone had an R3 completely freak out after a firmware update?
I’ve been fighting this thing for like 2 days now. Initially I lost all force feedback in both Assetto Corsa Competizione and Le Mans Ultimate even though the wheel/pedals/buttons still worked normally.
Steering input was detected, but the wheel had zero resistance and felt completely limp in both game and Pit House.
I updated firmware and things got even weirder. At one point the wheel started violently shaking/oscillating at idle like I was driving on a dirt road even with no game actively being driven. This happened the first time I downloaded version 1.2.9.14 and was never able to replicate again.
Then the wheelbase got extremely hot and shut itself off into thermal protection.
What’s strange is the heat seems concentrated underneath the wheelbase near where all the cables plug in, not evenly across the whole unit.
I downgraded to firmware version 1.2.3.14 and actually got the wheel working normally for a little while last night with no issues. Came back the next day and the FFB was gone again.
Tried the newest firmware version (1.2.9.16) and the motor overheated into thermal protection again.
Things I’ve already tried:
factory resets
disabling Steam Input
multiple USB ports
testing in both ACC and LMU
running Pit House as admin
The startup jolt still happens every time I power the wheel on, so the motor clearly CAN produce torque. I got the r3 bundle on Amazon about 8 months ago so it’s still a newish piece of hardware.
Tl:dr
No force feedback. Updated firmware to newest and motor gets hot for no reason and shuts off. Downgraded to version 1.2.3.14 and had ONE night of fun. Came back the next day to no force feedback. Any 1.2.9.X version overheats the motor for no reason.
