Rewatching this episode now and Deb, Quin and Astor so far have said similar things about dexter not seeming to care. Deb said she can't tell how he feels or how he's thinking, Quin said his reaction is too rational and monotone, and Astor said that just by looking at him she can tell he doesn't care.

To me it doesn't look like that at all tho. From the outside it looks like he completely shut down. This is not how he normally is- he's barely responsive, he looks like he's not really there, like he can't accept what happened and instead turns automatically to what he knows how to do (analyze a crime scene).

Maybe I'm reading too much into this but it certainly looks to me like he cares. I don't get how people around him don't see that
