The Exit 8 (with bonus movie review!)

There's something to be said about games you can learn and finish in under 2 hours.

Clicking the game from your store of choice loads you straight into to game, you can pause to change settings etc, but you're immediately immersed.

No 5 hour 'tutorial' (cough BOTW cough cough TOTK), no playing for hours before the intro title rolls the screen, just very simple instructions seamlessly woven into the game's setting and off you go.

I'll leave out specific details because I think it's good to go in pretty blind, but essentially it's a puzzle walking simulator where you play spot the difference. Some are obvious, some are subtle, and you get better at spotting them as you play.

There's some very mild frights but mostly just a loop of either spotting the difference and feeling proud, or getting back to 0 and being frustrated at missing something!

If you're interested, have a look at a store page for it, I think the screenshots and videos will give you enough info to decide if you like it and want to jump in.

There's also a movie, I played the game and watched the movie in the same day, I really enjoyed both! It's not often I like movie adaptations of games but this one is great, it really sells the vibe of the game.

9/10 for both!

Someone else posted a review a few weeks ago that piqued my interest, I saw I already had picked up the game in the past so decided to give it a spin.

Is it best enjoyed blind? Yeah I think so. Not sure if Outer Wilds defines the genre, but it’s similar to that in that you’ve got a cool area to explore, mechanics to play with, and the more you figure out, the more the game progresses.

Is it easy to take screenshots? Absolutely! If screenshots are your jam like me (I’ve got my captures folder on OneDrive as my background photo on shuffle every minute!) then it’s awesome. Press a button and it instantly goes to photo mode, press another and the UI instantly disappears. Take the screenshot, press one button, and you’re instantly back in the game.

Any final thoughts? The game is gorgeous, really cool setting. I liked the voice acting a lot, and if Outer Wilds-like is a genre then this is a 9/10 game in the genre! The controls are far more accessible than Outer Wilds and the information is easier to piece together.
