Vacation to Dhigurah
Hi All :) Me and my boyfriend are currently planning our very first overseas trip together. Based on my findings, my first choice would be Dhigurah (I was also looking at Thulusdhoo, Kunaavashi & Fulidhoo - would you recommend any of these islands in lieu of Dhigurah?).
We'd love to do as many water activities and excursions as possible, and my research showed the island would be perfect for that. I do have a few questions for the more seasoned travellers.
Arriving and departing: I found direct flights from Vienna to Malé with great prices at the beginning of December. I am aware we would need to take a speedboth to and from the island once we get to the airport. My main concern is the departure. Our flight would leave from Malé in the morning (10.25 am) would we be able to make it in time or should we find accomodation in Malé for our last night?
Speedboats: How do speedboats work here? I tried looking it up in the group, where they said mainly the accomodations book them for the guests. Is it still around 60-70$? Can we pay this fee in dollars or euros or should we exchange money at the airport first?
Money exchange: Can you please give me some advice how this works? Can we exchange money in Dhigurah as well or is this a service we can get strictly in Malé? Are the islands mainly cash only? What is better: euro dollar?
Accomodation: I found a great price for a hotel at Dhigurah and they had great reviews as well. One of the issues were that they were quite unresponsive regarding transfers. If that's the case, is there a company I can contact in the island to help things get scheduled?
Respecting the locals: I'm aware that Dhigurah is an inhabited island, meaning women would need to dress modestly and tourists are not allowed to consume alcohol. Is there only one Bikini Beach in the island where every tourist goes, or if we explore the island can we snorkel basically anywhere?
Excursions and prices: I saw that the accomodations organise a bunch of excursions (i.e. snorkeling/diving, bike rentals, wildlife tours etc.) how much do they cost on average in your experiences?
