When a guy says he didn't cheat during the relationship but he had feelings for someone, what does that mean?

Context:

We were arguing over text. The subject was an item he is now refusing to return. The refusals got nasty, and I was called disrespectful, and it got to this part:

Him: I didn't cheat. But you can believe whatever you want

Me: You cheated on me with your coworker for months.

Him: If you're referring to classic cheating that didn't happen while we were together. If I had feelings for another person, yes.

Him: And I don't think I'm the only one at fault for having ended up feeling something for someone else.

Is that a thing? Classic cheating vs. feelings for another person? Is one worse than the other?

He broke up because he was 'not in love'. I found details later. He denied everything previously. We were together 6 years.

L.E: I am not going back to him. And yes, I realised he was not giving the item back because he, as he put in many words during the convo, feels entitled to it now because I didn't remain 'friendly' with him. By worse than the other, I mean he spent time with this person emotionally attaching himself there, instead of sex?
