Needing Help With Starting Engine
A few days back I bought myself a 1978 MG Midget 1500, not running but the engine turns over great. I’ve been doing diagnostics on it and everything seems to be perfectly fine: the fuel pump pumps, the carburetor is clean and fuel is making it through, all pistons are opening and closing, compression is what it should be, all spark plugs are sparking, and the distributer timing is on point with top-dead-center of cylinder 1.
However, the engine just won’t start, seldomly there will be a pop from the exhaust, which I understand is unspent fuel mixture combusting in the exhaust. Starter fluid hasn’t done anything, and I’m truly at the point where I’m not sure what to do.
Would you guys have any ideas or suggestions of what this could be?
UPDATE: The car is now running! Turns out the distributer timing was off by 180°. Thank you to you guys for helping and putting in your thoughts!
