Just got a 1959 MGA Roadster!
I'm super excited to start working on my new (to me) car, but am quickly realizing that I'm missing some resources. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find an autobook, disassembly book, or some other resource that details all the parts of the car (I'm not all that sure what this would be called). I'm also looking at my dash with no small concern, as I have no idea what any of the buttons, dials, or knobs do. I've only ever driven automatic! And this is by far the oldest car I've ever gotten my hands on, but I'm excited to get her running and out on the streets!
A visit to the British Motor Museum and MGCC (gallery link inside)
I tried to post this yesterday, but Imgur was having issues...
Went off to England for a few weeks. I scheduled slots in our itinerary for visits to the British Motor Museum in Gaydon and the MG Car Club in Abingdon.
The BMM in Gaydon is definitely worth a visit if you're into the history of LBCs and their larger cousins. There was a nicely restored MGB GT in the lot as we walked in. That was a good sign. Lots of cars from all marques, including several famous ones (e.g. QEII's well-used Range Rover). The museum was having a meetup of Aston Martin owners in the parking lot, so there were plenty of extra things to look at. Some done up Bond-style with prop rocket launchers and machine guns.
There is trick photo in there, for those of you hoopy froods that know where your towels are. Also, one of the sign of a pub that existed for years in Abingdon until they changed the name.
The next day, we stopped at the MG Car Club in Abingdon. It's off the beaten path, so definitely suggest to call ahead if you want to visit. There isn't a lot to see, to be honest, but it's a fun 30-minute stop. What was once one of the factory buildings is next door and converted into apartments. Andy from the MGCC gave a short tour and diplomatically explained that they are there for all MG owners, not just those made in Abingdon. Sadly, we were in town on a Monday, so the County Hall Museum was not open.
Slightly off-topic, but the day we went to Kenilworth castle, there was a meeting of Alvis owners on the castle grounds. I had never heard of the marque before, but they were beautiful. I included a shot of one of the cars, but I have more, if there is interest. They're not exactly "little" British cars, but no larger than a TD or Magnette.
quick question about my ‘75 midget 1500
Hiya guys, i’m working on restoring my grandad’s MG, was just wondering if anyone could tell me which one of these is the brake master cylinder and which is the clutch master cylinder? Thank you :)
1934 MG PA; why, I'd say she's looking pretty good for 92...
The daily dose of wonderfulness, as found in the evergreen MG TC. Get out there and enjoy the drive.

Using the prototype supercharged 1500 cc Twin Cam engine, MG went record-hunting at Bonneville with EX181, "the Roaring Raindrop." In 1957, Stirling Moss was first up and smashed the flying KM at 245.6mph. Our own Phil Hill was next in '58: the engine bored out 1506 cc, he hit 254.9mph, a record.
Body designer Don Hayter later noted that it was EX181's profile that was his inspiration for the MGB's luscious fender shape. Squint just right and you'll find it; once done, you'll likely not forget it. Don was clever like that.
Almost lost to history's mist is the shutterbug behind the famous Phil Hill's photograph from that famous day on the salt flats; that was none other than David Ash, a.k.a. "Mr. MG," who is worthy of a longer story himself.
An officer and fighter pilot in the USAF, David's passion was for all things automotive, which led him to a highly accomplished career in car-dom. He was a regular and distinguished competitor at Sebring, working with Alec Ullman to establish that grand event. Between 1952 and 1957, David earned the title of "Mr. MG" as the only driver to start and finish five twelve hour-long endurance races at Sebring in five tries. He loved Bonneville almost as much as he loved Sebring and MGs.
At the 1987 British Grand Prix weekend, future F1 World Champion Damon Hill took part in two support events, his usual British F3 Championship campaign (finished 5th) and a one-off outing in the MG Metro Turbo Challenge.
The picture is from a test on Friday, 3rd July 1987, in preparation for the Esso MG Metro Challenge Race at Silverstone on 11th July.
A picture of Damon Hill testing the Metro is in the Autosport issue of 9th July which reported he would be racing the car at the British GP support race for Gray-Woolf Racing alongside teammates Michael Cullen, Barbara Cowell and Chris Taylor.
Hill is not mentioned in the report of the race in the Autosport issue dated 16th July, and the results only show the top ten finishers, so he would have had to have finished 11th at the highest, unless he retired. There were 38 starters, so he could have had an anonymous race in the midfield.
In this race, the celebrity cars were driven by David Sears and Mark Hales, though the Autosport 1987 British GP supplement suggested Johnny Dumfries was going to be driving one of the celebrity cars.
Damon's #16 car was usually driven by Featherweight boxer Barry McGuigan, which suggests he stood in for McGuigan, following the recent passing of McGuigan's father Patrick, though I have yet to find any sources to support this.
1974 MGBGT in parents garage
Does anyone in here have any insight on this vehicle in my parents garage? I’m not a big car guy but am thinking of putting some money in to get it restored for driving around on the weekends.
A 1952 MG TD served as the chariot of choice for Sen. John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy during their honeymoon stay in Acapulco, Mexico, September 1953.
I believe this is an MG my dad had in about 1955. Which MG is my mom standing in front of here?

The MGA truly was the dawn of a new era at Abingdon-on-Thames. This Twin Cam was caught at golden hour.
Overdrive help!
Hi there! I was driving today and realised my overdrive switch has become loose with no ‘click’ and will not hold in the engaged position. Even when held down, the overdrive doesn’t engage. If anyone has any advice on what this might be or how to take the switch out I’d be very grateful, cheers!
MGA 1600 - Honda K24 swap?
Has anyone seen an example of a Honda K24 swap into an MGA?
1961 MGA 1600 MK I if we need to get specific… I have a good roller, but it has a seized engine.
Before you tell me there are better option out there, the reason I ask is that I may have come into a K24 donor at little to no cost and I’m trying to decide what to do with it.
