Electrical Classroom Policy - will a GFII work on 24 VAC

School board has enacted a policy that students can only work on circuits that will have 24 volts connected to them in their shop classes. This kills a "GFI Lab" assignment that I had planned unless a GFI will still operate (trip) with a 24 VAC power supply (which I think would be a valuable learning experience).

Maybe if the power supply can be rigged to crreate that current imbalance greater than 6mA it would still trip at 24 volts?

We would need to buy a specific 24 volt power supply just to try it so I thought I would ask here first.

Has anyone ever tried it, or have related knowledge or have to gear to test it real quick?
