Is the Sledgehammer one of the most unique looking commercially available, non-custom snare drums?

I recently brought my other kit to my new house and the Mapex Black Panther Sledgehammer got me thinking. Now I’ve done no research and I’ve been out of the drum market for some time so I could be totally off base.

The finish on the shell itself is already pretty different but the fact that the lugs and rims match make it really stand out to me.

I could be totally wrong but let me know your thoughts And share pics if you got them.

Question for the drummers here.

I’m a huge Atom fan, maybe his #1(citation needed), so much so that I’ve essentially copied his set up over the years. but there are two pieces he has that I haven’t felt the need to acquire because I don’t know where or when he used them. I’ve been listening to and watching him for 20 years now and I’m struggling to find him using his 20” FX crash all the way to his left and his 8” rack tom.

For his crash, maybe he’s used it in The War as that’s his most crash heavy song but I’ve never seen it move.

i know he’s used his 8” tom in Distraction in the fill going from the bridge to the last chorus. but I don’t think he’s done that live and I haven’t seen or heard it anywhere else.

Anyone have any evidence to the contrary? Thank you!

I made a hi hat stand using only some pipe, some rod, a rod coupling and a hi hat stand.

I call it... the DAWG stand! it stands for The “Dave ‘Atom Willard’ Grohl” stand. Atom is my favorite drummer and I love how high he plays his cymbals. it’s truly a spectacle to behold. Dave Grohl was also famous for his high hats back in his Nirvana days. But alas, I’m a tall guy so I’ve never been able to play my hats like they do, until now. 1”OD pipe, m6 threaded rod and M6 rod coupling were all purchased on Amazon while the hi hat cup was purchased through Sweetwater. Stand is a Jr Iron Cobra road Pro Stand that I’ve had for, geez, 18 years now.

The process ended up being a happy accident. I tried to drill the 1” OD pipe with a 15/16“ drill bit to be able to insert the hi hat cup. That didn’t work but what it did do was heat the metal up enough for the cup to melt and form into the pipe as pictured. Then I cut the pipe to size so that my pipe’s lowest height matches the official product’s highest height.

I also named it the DAWG stand because it absolutely chews through sticks. Definitely not an all the time set up but I’m so glad to have the option, especially with my cheap LV cymbals.

PS. I just bought tickets to go see Atom play for the first time ever with a band I’ve hardly ever listened to, Plosivs. It’s the day before my birthday so I hope I can meet him somehow!
