Couple looking for housing in Cork

As a Cork native finding a place to live in my own city shouldn't be mission impossible.

My partner and I are looking for a 1 or 2 bed pretty much anywhere in Cork, our budget is up to 2500 and still we get no responses. We have a newborn baby and we are forced to live in a room in my mom's house but I really want to give her back her space.

Does anyone know a private landlord renting a 1 or 2 bed? Any leads would be greatly appreciated

Has anyone successfully applied for council housing without living in the area for 5 years?

So I'm planning on applying for council housing and I have two options.

To apply for south Dublin council but I have only lived in the area for a year and a half - prior to that I was in finglas (Dublin city Council) for 2.5 years before being made homeless for over a year living with friends and paying for hostels. (No I didn't receive any help during this time). My basis for applying would be one I'm pregnant so I can't continue to live in a shared house basically living in a room and also I've been struggling with getting work so I'm on social welfare where 900€ out of the 1200 getting is going exclusively to rent without me eating or electric. I won't be able to maintain this after I give birth.

My only other option would be to move back to Cork city where I lived for 19 years - covering the 5 years continuous living.

Does anyone have any recommendations?
