Opinions on the Carmel Defender Experience Center

Anyone here ever gone through the Defender Experience Center in Carmel, CA? I’m excited for the meetup right down the street from me next month, but it seems like a lot of people prefer the experience centers. Kinda curious what your guy’s thoughts are on it, because it’ll be a trip for me to get up to the center. Oh, and do I need to have AT tires? I have the Scorpion P zero AS tires.

Question on Walk-away locking

Any way to adjust the distance where the walk away lock mechanism does the warning honk at you? Literally can’t even walk around the engine block to get to the passenger doors before it goes off, it’s that close. I like the walk away feature, but it’s honestly annoying how little distance they give you before the warning goes off.

Bumpers

Anyone have some recommendations on aftermarket bumpers? Was looking to possibly swap my bumpers, grille accent line, and lettering for black instead of silver. I see ebay has quite a few kits, but I was curious if anyone knew of some good kits out there.

Question on OCTA Rims

Question for you guys… Might in the future be looking to buy the OCTA rims secondhand, and obv I’ll need to put a tire on. Do the stock Pirelli AS tires off a 20” tire fit on an OCTA rim? The Pirellis I have are 255/60R20 so the rim size is the same, but looking at some photos, the tires on the OCTAs show 275/60R20. I’m not well versed in tires, so I just wanted to check if the ones I have fit!

Question about Console Trims

My dad is really interested in getting an ebony interior for a defender, but we saw this one defender at the dealer I got mine from that was full black, but it looked like the center console trim and the passenger upright door handles (pictured) were swapped for some kind of trim that was wood (or maybe some sort of fake wood). I was wondering if there was a place to see if LR had these available to buy and just modify it ourselves, or if maybe the prev owner of that vehicle just used a wrap and wrapped the existing trims.

Question on Gas

So I did a first fill up on the Defender, and the gas cap inside said “Premium Gasoline Recommended.” I was wondering, what do you guys use, and is there a difference between premium and something like unleaded or the mix? I assume it affects the way the engine runs and maybe MPG?

Question on Wheel Cover

So I just got a Defender but it didn’t come with the wheel cover. Since it’s in Carpathian Gray, unfortunately I can’t just get it from LR’s parts site (they only offer black and the silver grey), and my rep from the dealer said it would cost like $1k for a wheel cover in the color. So I’ve been looking on ebay to save some costs, anyone have experience with some wheel covers on there? One I’m looking at is around 400 or 450 after shipping and import.

Took the plunge

I’ve been looking for a defender for a while now, and suddenly one popped up on my radar for an amazing price and mileage, I had to jump on it. And it’s been amazing so far, all the features I would want it had, the drive is great and there’s cool things I’m still learning about it. Thanks guys for helping me with my questions on the sub, it was very informative and helped me make the best purchase!

A Follow-Up Question about Purchasing

So, two days ago on here I asked about what everyone’s thoughts were on a ‘23 X Dynamic SE a little over 10k miles I found at a secondary dealership. I went and test drove another model, a 2025 P400 S, just under 11k miles at a JLR dealership. The dealer had two, but the one Im looking at has a 3L V6 or I6, and it’s the same price as the one I was looking at before (the ‘23). My predicament is that the ‘23 has extra packages related to offroading, towing, etc, whereas the ‘25 is just stock. But talking to a rep at the dealer, they mentioned that the package doesn’t necessarily matter, that a stock P400 is still capable of offroading as the ‘23, obv just doesn’t have as many features without that package.

Does anyone have a similar car and has used it offroading? I’m not an avid offroader, but obv that might change in the future, just wondering if it’s worth the hassle of getting the ‘23. My biggest thing is having an extra couple of years of warranty on the 25, whereas the 23’s is about to expire apparently. So yeah, just trying to figure out what’s worth pursuing.

Question on Ownership

Hey y’all, I was looking into possibly purchasing a 2023 LR Defender 110 X Dynamic SE preowned. Its only got 15k miles on it and test drove it at the dealership with no issues I could see. I just wanted to get everyone’s opinions on the vehicle specifically in terms of like issues, concerns and things to watch out for in the purchasing process. Also, was wondering for US people, what’s like the average insurance and maintenance costs per year everyone sees?

Main goal of this is to have a decent luxury vehicle that feels nice to drive and also has 4WD capabilities. Watching some vids online, the 4WD layout and HUD looks really nice with this.
