Retraction method question to fix bimaxillary protrusion

Does anyone know why my orthodontist (USA based) chooses to move my canines back first to retraction teeth into extraction spaces insteads of retraction all 6 front teeth using strong achorage for a shorter and efficient treatment time?
Is there any real benefit for the first method? I wasn't offered the second option but saw a few posts here of people getting all 6 retracted together. This will lengthen my treatment time tremendously and I'll have these big gaps in the front.

Note: my bimax protrusion case is moderate so not severe. I have generally straight teeth and just want to retract. All 4 premolars extracted a month ago. I orginally asked for tads but was not given it. Didn't realize THIS would be method.
