Braces at 65

I occasionally see people ask if it’s worth it to get braces at, say, age 30. I’m 65 years old and I just got braces a couple months ago. I had them
When I was 14 for a severe overbite. So this is my second round since my teeth gradually became misaligned over the last 50 years. Yes, for me it’s worth it. Do it.

am i overreacting? not that happy with results

i have had braces for four years. I’m really only getting them off because im tired of how long treatment has been going on and because I have to go to college. I feel like the things I was unhappy with while I had braces are even more noticeable now (open bite one side, cant, midline not lining up w my face). Am i just overthinking it.

“Wear your retainer they said”

I don’t want to hear it because I’ve worn this thing after spending $5k and having 3 grueling years of upper expansion, IPR and SO SOOO MANY rubber bands to rotate and pull these canines down. But why am I now just learning that the Hawley retainers can pull canines up? I went to monthly and yes MONTLY appointments after for retainer checkups and my ortho said absolutely nothing about this being an issue. I wore it for a straight year like I was supposed to. After I got permission I was only wearing it at night for 10 hours. Why why why wasn’t I warned about this because these two teeth were by far the worst thing to get into place and now I’m going to have to be in braces again not knowing how much or how long it’s going my to take. My last appointment over a year ago the assistant tells me yes this happened sometimes?!!! I’m angry

Never too late

Getting braces at 27 feels a little unusual, but I’ve realized that age really doesn’t matter when it comes to making a change for yourself. At first, I was nervous about how I would look and what people might think, but now I see it as a small step toward something that will make me feel more confident.

It’s never too late to improve something, start something new, or simply do something that makes you happy. If I had waited because I thought I was “too old,” I would have missed the chance to do something for myself. So here I am, 27 and wearing braces and proud of it. ✨

Do i need braces or not?

I am turning 18 in oct, lowkey conscious about my teeth though i am mostly not worried about it but i am confused if it would create any issues in future? i am lowkey lazy too and it would be hard for me to maintain braces and the feeling of it scares me a lil bit. what should i do?

Does my smile look too narrow or teeth look inward? I can’t tell and just got braces removed today. All photos are from today but I feel like they weren’t ready.

Crazy how fast my teeth are shifting

I mean, that’s why I got them in the first place, but it’s still crazy to me =))) How long did it take you guys to start seeing some changes?

Is it normal for my bite to feel slightly off after braces are removed?

Got my braces removed four days ago.
When I eat and have my retainers out, my bite feels slightly off, like my bottom incisor is hitting the back of the top tooth on one side but not the other. It feels weird when I eat. My top teeth are also still kind of looser.

Is it normal to have this feeling after braces are removed? I’m hoping my bite settles into a comfortable position as my teeth settle.

1st day of braces vs. 1st adjustment (7 weeks)

1st photo is the day I got braces, and the 2nd photo is today after getting my first adjustment. 3rd photo is the night before I got braces (ignore the dry lips I was on Accutane then😭), 4th photo is today when they took my wires off before they put new ones in.

Before anyone decides to tell me I didn’t need braces and that my teeth were already straight: respectfully, you are not me, you don’t have my teeth or my bite issues, and you are not my board-certified orthodontist. He wouldn’t put braces on a patient if he thought it was unnecessary. For context, I had braces for the first time (done by the same orthodontist) when I was 10 and got them off at 12. Since I was so young, I didn’t understand the importance of wearing my retainers. My teeth ended up shifting to the point where my bite wasn’t fitting together comfortably at all. It made it hard to chew and eat and it caused jaw pain sometimes. So at 21 I decided to get braces again!

Ive had three brackets fall off in the first six weeks, is it me or braces?

as the title suggests, my first six weeks of braces have been troublesome, with two falling off literally while Im brushing teeth and an other while i was having an olive. I now realize not to eat olives but are there any other people who struggle with brackets falling off early on?

Braces at 27

Just got braces on at 27! Feeling a little insecure but glad I’m finally doing something about them for myself. Projection is 18 months and I have to get an incisor implant and fix a cross bite. Hoping it doesn’t take any longer!

Braces in school

I’ve had braces for about a month now and things are going pretty well. I’m going back to high school in about three weeks and naturally I’ve been stressing about the food situation. School lasts about 6-7 hours so by the time I get home I would be starving if I didn’t eat anything.

Before I got braces I would usually snack on fruit or occasionally yoghurt during school. Is there any way I can avoid brushing at school and not get white spots since I don’t want to brush at school and I don’t go home right after school ends? I feel ashamed thinking about brushing my teeth in the bathroom because it’s crowded every time I go.

Any answer or tips are welcome, even if they are unrelated to what I just asked. Thank you!

Self conscious about my smile at 35. Should I get braces?

For a long time I’ve been somewhat self conscious about my teeth. Obviously there’s the gap but then also the two front teeth extend lower than the rest. I used to only smile without showing my teeth but I’ve learned to embrace what I have and honestly I think smiling big and open is better than what I did before.

How it looks does still weigh on me a bit so I wanted to get some input. Thanks!

Did anyone here use these type of braces? Not retainer, actual braces.

In Italy they call these “invisible thread”. It’s a metal thread bonded to the teeth, no brackets. But I can’t find anything about this technique in English. It seems like a new method.

Possibly ingested a loose coil spring. Should I monitor it?

I couldn't find a proper subreddit for such a question, so I'm asking here even though it's specifically a GI medical question rather than a braces one.

I had a spring around the premolars to maintain spacing between two teeth. It was fitted right at the end of the wire and it started popping off the past week as the teeth moved. I got it back into place on my own a couple of times and would usually take note not to chew over there, but I forgot about it while eating sushi earlier and noticed it popped out again. When I went to put it back in place I couldn't find the spring.

Because it was quite at the back of my mouth I'm not sure it could jump out of my mouth without me noticing, and thus although it doesn't seem that likely either I might have swallowed it without noticing because it got covered with sticky rice.

Should I, eh... monitor its hopeful exit the next few days? Most online sources just say that if the piece didn't go to the lungs or become lodged inside the throat then it should be fine, but I feel like it would bother me if I'm not 100% certain it passed through (and if I didn't actually ingest it then I will be left wondering).

What do you think? Thanks.
