How can I speak more clearly with braces?

I just got braces and something that makes like a barrier to my tongue so it wouldn't push my teeth if you know what I'm talking about.. I have overbite (I don't know it's name) and I can't say or talk anything clearly...is there a way I can speak like I used to while wearing braces plus this thing that creates speech impediment for me?

Please recommend anything that could work I don't wanna speak like this in school.

Completed braces treatment but unhappy with results

As you can tell by the title, I’m not really happy with the results of my braces treatment. I added pictures with text for more context.

My biggest issue is the gaps/black triangles that were left behind. I honestly thought those would either be fixed or at least way less noticeable by the end of treatment, but they still stand out a lot to me. My midline is also off center, which bothers me too.

When I smile, I usually smile more with my top teeth and kind of push my tongue against the back of them so the pink from my tongue hides the little gaps a bit. I know that probably sounds weird, but maybe the pictures explain it better.

I’m wondering if I should look into more treatment. If so, what would be best? I’m leaning toward Invisalign because I really don’t want to go through braces again, but I’m worried Invisalign might not be able to fix the issues I have since braces seem more precise for detailed movements.

What do you guys think about my smile/results? Would you look into refinements if you were me?

I don’t think I’m satisfied with this

I’m really frustrated because I feel like I can’t find a good orthodontist in my area. After they removed my braces, I still felt like there was a gap in one of my back teeth, so before taking them off I asked for a second opinion from another orthodontist. Even then, the orthodontist who was treating me kept insisting it was time to remove my braces.

The second orthodontist told me my treatment looked fine and that the gap was due to the shape of my teeth. She said I could get my braces removed, so that’s what I did.

I went to my orthodontic appointment and told him I was there to remove the braces, and he said, ‘And why are you suddenly making that decision?’ and I replied, ‘Because you told me to?’

He always had that kind of attitude. I would tell him there was a gap in the back and sometimes he’d say it was because of the shape of my tooth, and other times he’d say there actually was a gap and it needed to be closed. Anyway, I trusted the second orthodontist, and this is the result.

What really bothers me now is that when he removed my braces he said, ‘If you don’t like it, we can just put them back on and start another treatment.’ Like… as if I’m the orthodontist and I’m supposed to know what my teeth need. I was honestly shocked.

Then I got home and my mom asked if it was normal for people to have such separated teeth. I assume that was directed at me, because she was complaining about how my front teeth looked too separated and big. I’m showing the result here. Another doctor who works there told me he could do bonding on my front tooth because it’s chipped, but yeah, I do feel like my front teeth look separated and it frustrates me because nobody was capable of telling me.

Can someone tell me honestly if that’s true or if it’s just my impression? Would bonding help make it less noticeable, or what could I do?

How will all the teeth fit?

I got braces a week ago. I’m only just now eating normal again the pain lasted way longer than I thought🥴

But anyways I’m confused how they’re gonna fix my bottom teeth? As you can see in the first pic I have some pretty bad crowding. I still have all of my wisdom teeth so I’m like how are they gonna push these teeth back to make room for the crowded one to fit in? Has anyone else had braces for crowding? Any responses are appreciated😊

Should I ask my ortho to increase upper teeth show?

Hello,

I was hoping someone could tell me if I'm being nitpicky, or if it's fair to request this to my ortho.

My top teeth barely show when talking. I think my philtrum is a tiny bit larger than normal so that might contribute. I might consider a lip lift in the future. But for now, do you think I could ask my ortho to maybe bring my top teeth down a bit? Or would it be a dumb request? I'm currently at 2 years and 3 months of treatment and nearing the end.

Another thing, my teeth midline is a bit off center from my nose. The more I look at it it starts bothering me. Should I also bring this up?

Thank you

treatment plan length

hey all, basically i accidentally broke 2 brackets in the bottom row far left of my mouth eating takis. the ortho claims that the very back bracket isnt needed and can be put on later (same thing happened on other side), but that the other one i broke right next to it cant be re-bonded for a few weeks. since its only 1 bracket, will this push back the time i am supposed to get these things off? thats the only problem with them

also if anyone has tips on how to prevent these breaking pls lmk 😭 no problems w my top ones but i got bottoms a little over a week ago and have already broken 6

Should I put on a palatal expander tomorrow or wait 2 months for my final exams to pass?

I am a 26 years old man. I have crossbite, and it is a reason for putting on the expander, however, after reading experiences from people here, who say that often it is miserable experience for first month, I am wondering if I should move it to after the exams. I know myself, if the experience is going to be miserable for a month, I am going to be miserable and unable to study.

I am supposed to put on a palatal expander tomorrow. In next 4 weeks, I have anatomy exam, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry and a subject I do not know how to translate in english.

I am already deeply concerned about lowering cigarette consumption (it is a given when you study any biomedical field), eating habits (I eat at student cantina mostly), and speaking issues (exams are oral) plus salivating.

Orthodontist says it isn't so bad, and that I will wear it for a year, but I wore braces as teenager, and it absolutely killed my self-confidence back then. I almost missed the opportunity to even study at a university, because I didn't believe I was capable of it.

What do you think theses elastics are for ?

I hate my teeth so I won’t show a pic but it goes from the top canine towards the inferior jaw and last molar. Symmetrical. I haven’t been told when to wear them or change them so I wear them all the time even at night. I change them twice a day for now but I can go up to 3.

Also I need to bitch a bit about these because FUCK how it hurts. I was just getting used to braces pain and eating whatever it feels like I’m back to day one with braces lmao.

Is there a way to get whiter teeth while having braces on?

I’ve got a good year or two left on these old guys, and I have naturally pretty yellow teeth. Is there anything I can do?

Progress Photos

Hey all! Been browsing the forum for a while, and finally feel brave enough to post some progress photos! I had my second adjustment yesterday, and braces were first fitted at the end of January 2026. I am so shocked by the progress already, I’ve already had some tears!

I used to have severe dental phobia as I have hEDS and anaesthetic doesn’t work well on me. I neglected my dental health for years, but in the last 8 years I have found an incredible dentist who has absolutely conquered that fear. I have always hated my teeth, but at the ripe age of 33, I have finally had braces fitted! Expected treatment time is 24 months, but I’m so impressed with the movement so far. The pain is worth it!

Is this a good fit? Supposed to look like that when the retainer is on

Ignored my face. I forgot to shave. Just got them yesterday. Also. My gap in the front started to open up again. I called them and they made an appointment for next Wednesday. I was supposed to only wear the retainer during the night but they told me that until the appointment I need to wear them at all times. It went from this to this in less than 24 hours ( see pics)

Question about cleanings

When you all got cleanings did your dentist require the ortho remove your wire first?

Teeth shifting after braces even with x2 retainers? Orthodontist said it was normal, thoughts?

First photo is side by side comparison of my teeth when braces came off (top), and my teeth now a month later bottom. 2nd photo is what my teeth looked like 2 weeks before braces came off (so similar gap on left side between top and bottom teeth). 3rd pic is what my teeth looked like before braces.

I got my braces off at the end of April, which was camouflage treatment for a crossbite and underbite. I got a permenant wire retainer on the front 6 teeth, and an essix retainer to wear 24/7 for 6 months. The teeth on my lower left front side look and feel like they've shifted to me, they were the last teeth to move before braces came off, and were really stubborn. Due to previously having an underbite, I'm wary of those specific teeth moving forward. I asked the orthodontist about it, and she said its completely normal and expected due to the plastic retainers between them for 24 hours a day, and that when we taper the time wearing them down & switch to only overnight wear, they'll 'sink' back into place to where they were when braces came off. But that feels wrong to me? Since I thought we wear retainers 24/7 for 6 months so the bone hardens and they stick into place?? Any experiences or thoughts on this? Is my ortho right or should I be concerned?

How to chew with expander bubbles?

My son got braces today with an expander and they put little blue "bubbles" on each side of the expander to prevent his lower teeth from hitting brackets on his upper teeth. However, his back teeth now don't touch at all and he can't chew. He has been sobbing at the dinner table, spitting out food, saying it's impossible to chew and swallow. What can we do to help? Anyone have tips? We're going to be making a lot of soup, I imagine, but how can he figure out how to chew soft food with these bubbles on??

positive experiences only please! 😩

so i’m due to get 4 pre molars extracted and i am terrified!! i’ve read so many things of people saying your jawline and chin can become recessed, you can develop sleep apnea or not have enough space for your tongue to sit comfortably and the list goes on.. I’m feeling so paranoid 🥲 My orthodontist checked my teeth and said it wouldn’t be possible to do the treatment without extractions, so i have agree to do it and signed all the paperwork. Anyone who has had 4 pre molar extractions, what is your experience?
