am i overreacting? not that happy with results

i have had braces for four years. I’m really only getting them off because im tired of how long treatment has been going on and because I have to go to college. I feel like the things I was unhappy with while I had braces are even more noticeable now (open bite one side, cant, midline not lining up w my face). Am i just overthinking it.

Getting Braces Off…

Im going in for retainer scans soon but Im unhappy with the state of my teeth. To make matters worse, Im going to college 1hr away in August, so I cant keep getting adjustments here anyways.

I have a cant, my midline is off, and when I bite down, my teeth dont contact on one side. My ortho has been dismissive, and avoids giving straight answers by leaving the room when I and my parent ask questions. We didnt even know that he scheduled for my braces to come off until we went to schedule the next appointment and they said i need to get scans…

Ive been in braces for 4 years, so a part of me just wants them off and all this over with, but Im also unhappy withy bite and how my teeth looks. I cant comfortably chew on the side thats open.

Im not really sure what to do at this point. I could find another ortho closer to my college, but getting a second round of braces likely wont be covered by insurance, making it very expensive. Despite this I plan to call an office near my college to see if they can treat my case. Is there anything else I should do?

My dad is enraged that my siblings want to be… engineers?

Im 18F w/ two siblings, 16M and 14M. Im going to a top college in hopes of pursuing medicine, my decision. However, my dad keeps getting into arguements w my younger siblings about how they cant be engineers? Like what? He is pushing them towards medicine or anything healthcare but they obviously arent interested.

Necessary background: but my parents, really my dad, was pushing me to major in nursing when I was applying to colleges. I wanted to major in chemistry, biochem, or eventually neuroscience (what im now majoring in) as a premed. He would literally start arguements w me weekly. Screaming, tears, the works. Finally cooled off now but srsly…

I’m honestly stunned that he is steaming at the fact my brothers wanna be engineers. Like I’d sorta get it if they wanted to major in something random… but engineering?? Its a high paying field. He says that its poor man’s mentality to pick a lower paying field when you could be making doctor money, but I feel that 1) engineering isnt low paying, 2) you should study/go into a career you interested, and 3) Its not that hard to get a job in the field if you put in the work (internships, networking, involved etc). If anything, the world needs less people in medicine/healthcare that arent at least somewhat passionate about the field.

I dont even think he realizes that I wont be making “doctor salary” until Im in my early 30s. Ill probably still very much be financially dependent on them for money until I get into residency when Im around 26/27. At least with engineering, they will actually be able to be completely financially independent by the time they are 23/24 if they get jobs out of college.

I don’t know how i can make him understand that he should be overjoyed that his kids want to push themselves into such a well respected, high paying field. There is nothing (as far as I am aware) wrong with engineering. Like he is pushing the immigrant parent “only doctor, lawyer, or engineer” thing so far.

Sometimes, I wish he would have a little more faith in us…

Any advice on how to make him realize that it’s okay to aspire to be an engineer?
