What engine would you recommend for a beginner making a mobile roguelite/card game similar to Dicero?

Hey everyone, I’m just getting started with game development and could use some advice on where to begin. I recently played Dicero on mobile and really liked the overall format/gameplay loop. It inspired me to try building a small project of my own with a somewhat similar style (roguelite/card-based gameplay for mobile).

Right now I’m mainly trying to figure out which engine would be the best fit for a beginner. I’ve looked into things like Godot and Unity, but there are so many options that it’s hard to know what’s most approachable and practical for this kind of game.

For those with experience, what engine would you recommend for someone new to game development, especially for a 2D mobile roguelite/card game? Any tips, learning resources, or things you wish you knew starting out would also be really appreciated. Thanks!

My team lack depth and a solid wr1. He offered Rome and Warren but this would be a counter to that since I don’t like rome.
