Do you need same amount of awake time when dropping naps?

My baby is 7.5 months old and I think we are getting ready to drop from 3 to 2 naps.

He’s medium to low sleep needs, currently we do 2.5/2.5/2.5-3/3.5-4 (11-11.5hrs awake time) and he does 10-10.5 hours overnight beautifully. ST at 6 months, falls asleep independently, naps usually 1-1.25 hrs first two naps and 20-30 mins for 3rd nap, average 2.5-2.75 hrs total.

I’m thinking of trying 3/3/4 but that’d only get us 10hrs awake max. Something like 3/4/4 would be too much for him right now. So if 3/3/4 is going to mess with his nights I rather stay on 3 naps until he can do 11hrs awake on 2 naps.

So I’m wondering… when dropping a nap, do you need the same amount of awake time you had on the old schedule or is it okay to have less awake time as we stretch wake windows?
