Is it my race or the hair dye - corporate job.
I started a corporate job in insurance and my friend (a senior leadership) gave me the opportunity to film content for the company. He said I can pick one person and I (the only black woman in my office who’s new ) picked my friend (a white male who started with me) to film the content with me. The first time we uploaded the videos to the company site from an event we went to of course he got more likes and comments on the company’s what u call “instagram”. It wasn’t really surprising to me, but fast forward 2 months we’ve been invited by senior leaders again to film but this time my hair is burgundy and in a kinky curly ponytail and when it came to getting someone to edit and upload the video they said the editor “was off” and they thought best not to upload it after a month of us (the white boy and I) asking what’s happening. They’ve said we shouldn’t worry and they will still use the videos later on but I don’t believe it.
Anyways Fast forward to today my friend has been selected by a lady at the event to upload a video on his own and it’s got so many impressions that it’s even ended up in the company news. I feel kinda hurt but I am presuming it’s because of my hair colour or because of my race and I’m not sure what to do.
Should I dye my hair back to black or would that even make a difference? I think I’m also mostly hurt because Im the one who gave his name to senior leadership and said that he should join me and now it feels like they’ve binned me off loool.
What do you guys think?
