Are materials different based on where you buy glasses?

Years ago, I bought a nice prescription pair of aviators with glass lenses. They were amazing and lasted for almost a decade. However, when it finally came time to replace them, I learned that you can't get prescription lenses in glass anymore. At least, not from any glasses place where I live. Polycarbonate, or bust. This was disappointing to learn, as my regular glasses have been plastic for years, and they get scratched constantly. But whatever- not much I can do about it.

To keep things simple, I ended up getting the lenses from Walmart. If it's all the same material, no reason to spend more to replace my aviator lenses. Within days, my sunglasses were covered in small scratches. I haven't done anything unusual with them- I've carried them in their Ray-Ban case and in the carrier in my car. My conclusion is that the material used was just extremely soft and prone to scratching.

My question is: did I screw myself by getting the lenses from Walmart? Are all polylcarbonates not created equal, and would I be having less issues if I got my lenses done at a better location? Or are lenses covered in scratches just the accepted standard for glasses today?

After years of saving, we have the kitchen we always imagined

We bought our home during the pandemic, and even during the first tour of the house, we knew one thing: if we were buying this house, we were going to absolutely gut this kitchen. The cabinets were great, but the layout made no sense. The range is on the opposite side of the island from the sink, none of the throughways could fit more than one person at at time, there was a desk in front of the dishwasher, so you couldn't even use it, and my god- the island. I guess the original owners liked to put chairs around the middle area and then they would have dinner parties? Whatever the intent, it left us with a mostly useless island space that was never large enough to prep dinners for family.

We did a pretty massive overhaul to the layout. The wall by the dishwasher was pulled back several feet to create more space (again- what were they thinking?) and the window box was pulled into create more space in the screen porch outside. Plus the location of the appliances was moved around to improve the basic flow of the room. The end result feels like an entirely different house and so much bigger!
