10 year plan to save Star Wars
It's no secret Star Wars has been trending in the wrong financial direction since the sequels concluded. The third movie lost almost a billion dollars from the first movie in that trilogy. The Mando movie recently bombed. Now Disney is desperately trying to patch their timeline with content that does not ultimately matter because it all advances to the sequels. The sequel trilogy was largely a disaster for Disney because, while the protagonists in the original trilogy had greatness thrust upon them, the protagonists in the sequel trilogy were little more than Star Wars fans trapped in a Star Wars film, desperately wanting to be heros. This disaster continues to cost Disney billions of dollars, and they know this.
How does Disney save the franchise, and ultimately, their bottom line? Implement a 10 year plan. Disney needs to take these years to build a trilogy script. They have plenty from the extended universe to pull from. They can take these 10 years to slowly reskin their theme park rides as well.
The turning point for Disney, and the Star Wars story, is that the sequels are a force premonition given to Luke while he's sleeping. The premonitions came to him after he begins to fear one of his apprentices is slowing turning to the dark side. The Force, or even Yoda, calls out to Luke which ends up saving his Jedi academy. The stories from the EU transpire from there.
Disney can pay for the rights to CGI a young Luke. Alternatively, they can find a look-a-like. It's time Disney stops trying to put a band-aid on a shotgun wound. By not doing this, Disney risks losing so much more.
