Has anyone developed SIBO after a burst/removed appendix and actually resolved it?

When I was 12 I had viral meningitis and then six months later my appendix burst. After the surgery I had severe trapped gas to the point where my stomach was visibly rising at the stitches on my lower right side. Told the doctor. He said “probably just puberty, go for a walk.”

Looking back now that is exactly when my gut symptoms started. Not gradually. Right after that surgery.

I’m now in my late thirties and got diagnosed with IMO SIBO a few years ago and have spent years dealing with bloating, gas, diahorrea but no more so motility issues, bad itchy dandruff, swollen eyelids, anxiety…the works. Only recently started connecting the dots… the peritonitis, the heavy antibiotics at 12, the MMC disruption, all of it pointing back to that surgery and nobody ever flagging it.

Last year I done a 3 month low fodmap biphasic diet with oregano oil, berberine etc… didn’t work. After 6 months exact same results. I tried rifaxamin before too. I seen that famous video of the guy saying he cured his through artichoke root and ginger root. I bought those and took them religiously for a month but no joy. If I could hear from anyone who has been through something similar. Did a burst appendix trigger your SIBO? Did you resolve it and if so how long did it take and what worked? I think I could have adhesions from the burst appendix surgery… does that mean I’m F%#ked?

Feeling like I’ve been managing the symptoms for 25 years without anyone ever identifying the actual origin until maybe now.

Greetings from Skid Row (previously known as Tuckey Street)

*deep breath* SO…we’ve lived on Tuckey Street renting for a couple of years now and I genuinely don’t know how much more we can take of this…

Since the council repaved, pedestrianised and put down planters with benches , the street has drawn every, scumbag, junkie and alcoholic… within a 10 mile radius…Daily congregating spot for them drinking, using drugs and screaming at each other.

After dark it gets worse. Especially at the weekend, I dunno is it because I’m approaching my 40’s now or what I’m noticing it more but people absolutely off their heads, roaring, screeching, and the daily “SPEEEEDO’S” well into the early hours with zero Garda presence. The closest thing to coverage is one Garda at the Grand Parade fountain. That’s it.

My housemate was asked for a cigarette at the front door, said he didn’t have one, and they chased him and luckily he got inside and then they started kicking down the front door…Over a cigarette…

Our bin has been stolen twice. One evening I heard screaming outside and looked out to find a woman (she’s a regular) having a full on fight Rocky Balboa style… with the recycling bin…She then threw out all the rubbish, then kicked the bin to the ground. I roared out the window “what the fuck are you doing?!” She roars back “I’M ANGRRRRYYYY.” I dunno who was worse that night..me or her.. probably me. Another one of her crew was outside a different night randomly outside speedos shouting racist abuse and then wailing crying that he wished he’d met Michael Collins… the Irish war hero that’s been dead for 104 years 😬They set up camp on the benches here or outside Tesco Express on South Main Street because they know the Gardaí don’t patrol there. When you do call the Gardaí they come, disperse them, leave, and they’re back within the hour. 😒

Noise to complaints get you nowhere either. The Park Pub pumping music all year with a DJ in summer, Paperboys the same, Deep South another one. No maximum noise regulation whatsoever. Report it to Cork City Council and they fire off an email to the business. An email. If you’re lucky they might ring and ask them nicely to turn it down.

We hung heavy curtains, they replaced the rubber on the windows to try and make them more airtight. It’s an old house ontop of it all. The area is a hole and to make it worse we can hear everything. What is the actual solution? Harsher consequences? Give the Gardaí proper tools? Because there is no fear of the law anymore and it shows. And before anyone comes in with “ah but addiction is awful” or “they are homeless” I’ve seen decent homeless people in town, they keep to themselves, they aren’t off their face, they might ask you to get them food, these ones on my street, have better trainers than myself. Come live here for a week and then talk to me. Is there anyone living in the city centre who has experienced similar and actually managed to change anything? 😫 We’ve tried moving, there is nothing out there and everything is more expensive. Stuck between a rock and a hard place lads…I’ll be here for another 2 years saving for my deposit. So I can get a place far away from town anyway, also here’s a photo of the street the day the city council “power washed” it on the 25th of June.
