Defmetrix Update With More Free Helpful Tools

Hey everybody, I just wanted to provide another update on defmetrix and our progress. We have continued to expand our offerings to serve the defense industry.

We now have developed the Defense Atlas, which includes 3 tools (more to come).

  1. System Atlas. A complete searchable filterable database, of current US military systems, it includes year fielded, prime contractor, and estimated unit cost. Aircraft, missiles, radars. etc we have it.

  2. Organization Atlas. A DoD Organizational hierachy. We have never seen a tool that breaks down the organizational hierarchy tree of the DoD, so we built it. Its a heavy tool.

  3. Installation Atlas. A database/tool of DoD Installations and capabilities. The DoD is so big that its impossible to know what all exists. We are trying to change that. You can view the US Map of bases, forts, arsenals, depots, etc. You can also search for specific capabilities such as launch sites, wind tunnels, etc.

We also continue to build out the Toolkit, which includes free tools and calculators. We currently have 19 calculators, planners, and document builders for pricing, scheduling, capture, and execution. Plus a full set of proposal document generators. Everything runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.

Please take some time to check out our offerings, if you work in the industry, you will find something useful! Let us know what else we can build to help you! We are here to help.

Building DefMetrix in public: A free site mapping the entire US defense ecosystem

Hey r/buildinpublic,

I wanted to share the project I’ve been building: DefMetrix (defmetrix.com).

Instead of building a single-feature SaaS, I took on a different challenge: creating a free, comprehensive intelligence hub and operational toolkit for the entire US defense industry.

The defense space is notoriously opaque and locked behind expensive legacy paywalls. DefMetrix is built to change that by organizing data across three core pillars:

  1. The Financial & Executive Tracker
  • Spending & Lobbying: Live tracking of federal defense contracts, corporate spending, and lobbying registries.
  • Executive Compensation: Transparency into how much top defense executives are being paid.
  • Foreign Military Sales: Tracking the flow of US weapons and military tech contracts overseas.
  1. The Defense Hardware Atlas & Budget
  • The Systems Atlas: A categorized database mapping all major current military systems (missiles, aircraft, armor, naval vessels, etc.).
  • FY27 Budget Mapping: Direct alignment showing how the upcoming FY27 federal budget proposals allocate funds to these specific weapon systems.
  1. The Toolkit Suite

Practical, built-in mathematical engines and tools to help defense contractors manage their operations:

  • Cost Estimators & Schedule Builders: Simplifying complex government proposal pricing and timelines.
  • EVM Calculators: Live calculations for Earned Value Management to track project health.
  • TRL Assessment: Standardized frameworks to evaluate Technology Readiness Levels.

What's Next

I have a long backlog of additional tools and datasets currently in development. But because the platform is growing so fast, I need to focus my time more efficiently. I have several additional features built, but havent integrated them into the site yet.

I would love your brutal feedback on the UX and structure. With a platform like this, how do you keep the sidebar and navigation clean without overwhelming the user?

Check it out at defmetrix.com and let me know what you think! I’ll be in the comments to answer questions.

100% Free, Proposal or Project Cost Estimator

Im building free tools to help the community. I always struggle with putting together a cost proposal, so I built a simple tool to help the process. Hopefully it helps some of you save time. Check it out at https://defmetrix.com

The summary tab should give you all the numbers you need to submit with your proposal. You can also save as pdf to upload with your cost volume and the reviewers will have all the answers they need.

I’m happy to answer any questions or help if I can. Also I’m open to more ideas. What other tools can I build to help you guys?

What tools can I build to help you guys? For Free!

In my spare time I’ve been building tools mainly around the defense community. My ultimate goal is to build a platform that rivals some of the paid tools, like govtrive or highergov, and keep it free. I’m definitely not there yet though. You can check out my progress at defmetrix.com. My latest idea was to build a cost estimator that would include subs, materials, travel etc that would be helpful for estimating projects or SBIR proposals. Would anyone find this useful? I know most established companies already have these, but maybe it would save time for someone going after their first SBIR.

If you have other ideas you want me to build, let me know! I want to help.

Why do companies waste their time with protesting awards?

Recently I was interested to know how often protests are successful and was surprised to find out that it’s extremely low, 3%! Check it out at defmetrix.com for free!

Next time you think about protesting an award. Look at the stats and see if it’s worth your time and money.

I’ve been aggregating DoD contracts, lobbying, and financial data into a free searchable platform

I’ve been building a defense industry platform called DefMetrix that aggregates publicly available data from sources like: USAspending, SEC filings, Executive compensation disclosures, Lobbying records, budget documents, University research awards, Contract awards and modifications

The original goal was to make it easier to connect information that’s usually fragmented across dozens of government sites and PDFs.

I’m still actively building it out, but I’d genuinely like feedback from people in govcon, defense BD, investing, acquisition.

What datasets or features would actually be useful to you?

Happy to answer questions about the data sources or methodology too.
