2019 still going strong

Recently completed a road trip through Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah while averaging over 25 mpg for the whole trip. I highly recommend a tonneau cover, I picked up a relatively cheap soft roll-up one from Gator and it survived multiple thunderstorms with no leaks.

Finally landed the job I wanted after being laid off by two major manufacturers less than 20 months apart

I was laid off after a fire in my plant's furnace in July 2024, and was laid off again by a different factory at the end of March this year due to restructuring. I was one of ten people laid off out of 300 in the factory because they eliminated my specific shift.

Just got the call informing me I've been offered the job I wanted most, making $32/hour with great benefits. Turns out a friend I previously helped get a job at the company I was laid off from was able to help me get an even better job back with that same manufacturer at a separate location.

Posting because sometimes there is a light at the end of the tunnel, we just never know when we will catch a break.

UPDATE: The forgotten yoga kitten is now ours

My previous post got quite a bit of attention, so figured I would follow up with a recent development with the kitten left behind at my wife's cafe during a kitten yoga adoption event.

After being held at the local clinic for 24 hours, wife wife completed the application and picked up our yoga kitten, Olive!

She is very affectionate and seemed to be happy to come back home with us. We now have to avoid eye contact when we wake up, otherwise she will lick the skin right off our noses. Our two older cats are slowly coming around to the new addition, the house is getting crowded now! Thank you to everyone who shared interest in Olive, she is doing very well now that she is no longer stuck under the stairs!

This little one was left behind after a kitten yoga adoption event

An overwhelmed shelter recently came to the cafe my wife works at and hosted yoga classes with kittens in an effort to get them adopted. This little girl got herself stuck under some stairs sometime on Saturday, and the shelter had no idea she was missing, so she was not found until Monday afternoon when my wife was able to squeeze her out.

She has just recently been spayed within the last week or two, the scar is still plainly visible along with her shaved belly. Took her to our local clinic where we confirmed she had a microchip with the shelter's information attached. Now she has to be held at the clinic for at least 24 hours before we can apply to officially keep her.

We already have one toothless void, Goopy, who looks like an absolute tank next to our new friend. They get along well, but our other calico cat has not been particularly enthusiastic about a new addition to the household.

They're multiplying

Originally bought the Security 380 for myself, but my wife ended up really liking it so now it is her's. Provided a convenient excuse to treat myself to an OD green early birthday present.

2 years inside before/after

This is Goopy! (Legal name Rufus but that only lasted a few days) We left food outside for about 6 months before finally bringing him inside and getting him fixed. He was a trooper to make it out there as long as he did!

Goopy hasn't had any teeth since he showed up in our backyard, and had a gnarly wound on his neck that left a huge chunk of skin hanging off his face when we finally decided it was time to bring him in before it was too late. Turns out he is FIV+ which explains the teeth. Luckily there is no risk to our other calico cat, Pepper, since he doesn't have any teeth to bite her with!

I consider him a spiritual successor to my childhood black cat Whiskers, who died a few months before Goopy showed up. They both have the calmest demeanors, and I'm glad he showed up when he did.
