Worked in a Devil Corp in 2014/15

Hey yall,

I just wanted to share my experience and also ask a long shot question of whether anyone here may know the company I worked for and information about the “manager”. I am an attorney now and would like to see anything I can do to make these people’s lives hell.

So my freshman year of college, I couldn’t find a job to save my life. I found something on Craigslist talking about doing construction and learning trades while also making a bunch of money. It also encouraged people who played high school sports to apply (should have been the first massive red flag lol). So anyway I applied and went through the same process yall have with the multiple interviews, phone calls, etc that try to create a veneer of legitimacy. It’s insane to think I took that job when they advertised it as a construction job and it was actually a door to door sales job.

Anyway, took the job and it was right outside of Baltimore City in a little office complex on the second floor. When I came in, I was greeted by a beautiful woman in a very tight skirt who took me back to the office. They were blaring dubstep and had a bunch of whiteboards around an office with a bunch of poor, young kids in some TJ Max ill fitting suits all writing in their books meticulously as some other person in a garbage suit was bouncing around talking in cliches, allegedly teaching them how to “go in for the kill”, and the usual garbage.

Long story short, the “manager” was a short little dude who kind of looked like Ryan from The Office. He was obsessed with talking about his car, about his high school sports career, and about how he allegedly met some executive of a Fortune 500 company and “talked business” with them. He was also extremely demeaning to all his underlings, played favorites with his little group of jocks and attractive woman (who he would overtly sexually harass) and I learned that he gave all of them hot leads and then used them as examples of “success”. I didn’t stick around long enough to be a part of that group but I was in a fraternity and a jock so they immediately started pulling me to the side and telling me stuff.

The biggest identifiers I wonder if anyone will grab onto and be like “hey! I know that place” are the fact that owner was a little Wolf of Wall Street douche that was obsessed with high school sports and his car, they would do a thing at the end of the day where they would bang a gong for each sale made and run around in a circle chanting, the blaring dubstep in the morning and….. the most crazy and thing that got me to quit 2-3 days in.

This absolute punk would go and get a fish on Friday, a whole ass fish, and would have the best sales rep of the week SLAP the worst performers in the face with the dead fish. My first Saturday, which was my 2nd day I believe, I witnessed a poor middle aged nerdy man who was clearly worn down from the job get slapped with a fish by some punk 18 year old (only thing that gave hope was the actual top performer refused to do it, of course the jerk off manager scolded him). Anyway, I overheard the guy after saying on the phone “I just want to come home to see my daughter”…… that crap made me, an 18 year old frat dude, cry in the car on the way home. I quit immediately and have harbored this absolute disdain even as I have moved on in life and started my own family and career in the law. I just wrote it off though and had know idea this was a whole ass industry!

I know this was long and rambling, but I just discovered this page and it’s like a flashback to that time. It’s insane, like they are all doing the exact same thing even 10 years later.
