Considering trading in my r6mkii 500 f4 II for a 100-500 and r5 want a reality check

Howdy!

Recently rented the 100-500 and my god the weight of that thing has me seriously considering trading in my 500mm F4 IS USM L II and my r6mkii for this side grade and an R5 (depending on what my local camera store offers might be able to do the r5mkii)

Am I stupid? Should I hold onto the 500mm f4 for dear life? It’s an incredible lens, it takes a 1.4 or 2x extender like a dream and leaves me at f5.6 or f8 which is my biggest reason for being uncertain, I love taking pictures of lil birds like warblers and not sure if having more pixels to crop will be good enough compared to the image quality with the extender.

Being able to compose at different focal lengths was not something I expected to enjoy as much as I did after using a 500 prime for years now too!

I’m indecisive and genuinely can’t decide if that weight reduction and ability to compose my shots more freely is worth the loss of IQ and reach potential. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
