The World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893 was a significant success for the United States. In “The Devil in the White City”, the World’s Fair is explained as celebrating the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in America. Additionally, the fair was to highlight America as a growing superpower. Chicago wanted to show the world that it could compete with major cities like New York and Paris.

The fair was considered a success for the country because it symbolized America’s growing dominance and progression. The New York Times explained that if the fair failed, then the whole nation would be embarrassed.“The failure of the fair or anything short of a positive and pronounced success would be a discredit to the whole country, and not to Chicago alone” (Larson 149). The fair was also crucial for the country’s reputation, as the World Fair could either damage or save America’s reputation. The fair’s success was essential to America's emergence as a superpower.

The World’s Columbian Exposition changed how the world viewed Chicago. Many people believed that Chicago was undeserving of hosting the fair. The success of the World’s Fair changed many people’s opinions of Chicago. “Chicago has disappointed her enemies and astonished the world” (Larson 311). The fair impressed visitors, which showed that Chicago could compete with dominant cities. The success of the fair changed Chicago’s reputation around the world, establishing it as a major city capable of great things.

Ultimately, the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893 was important for America and Chicago. The fair was a opportunity for the country to showcase their progress and power to the world. The fair also changed the world's perception of Chicago into a major city like Paris and New York.

Penn State acceptance

Hello, I am a sophomore in High School. I have a 3.55, and honestly, I want to major in anything about sports, like sports marketing or management. Penn State has been one of my dream colleges alongside Saint Joe's and Villanova. What was your guys' GPA when accepted into PSU bc I'm scared 3.55 isn't good enough
