Let me start by saying, this is my first post ever. I know this post originated over 3 years ago, and I don't know if it will ever be read. But, I am thinking about getting another kitten and I was reading about cats and allergies and this reddit appeared.

Nearly 40 years ago when I was 21 my girlfriend called me and said someone at work was giving away Siamese kittens. When I got home from work that evening I met Church, our new kitten. Unfortunately, by the next morning I learned that I was allergic to cats and Church was sent back to her original owners.

Four years later and a new girlfriend, we adopted a dog from a local shelter. Wallace was a fun, loving and energetic addition to our household. My girlfriend also wanted a cat and I explained that I was allergic to cats. Yes, I've been to an allergist and was tested and discovered I was allergic to almost every pollen, grass, oak, cedar, dust, roaches, cats and the list went on. Back then I was a mail man and remembered that I had seen a house where a litter of feral kittens were playing around. I asked the owner if I could have one and she joyfully said,"YES, take them all!". I picked out a little black and white one and put her in my mail bag. We drove to the 7-11 and I bought her some cat food. In my postal vehicle she sat on my shoulder and ate some food and drank water.

My girlfriend was super excited that I brought Wilma home, but Wilma was a daddy's girl and always stuck with me. She sat where ever she wanted sit, on any part of my me that was comfortable. She slept on my head, under my chin, on my chest, sides and back. And she loved to give me me little kisses. She would just lick my lips, especially after I brushed my teeth. She would actually salivate until I would let her. Ok, my point is that from day one, I was never allergic to Wilma. I realize they say the Fel d 1in the cat's saliva or dander is the cause of allergic reactions. I had Wilma for 17 years and not once did I have a negative reaction.

After she passed, which left me more devastated than I ever expected, I waited 2 years to get another cat. There were several feral kittens running around my backyard. I waited a few weeks and one day I picked Ting Ting and brought her inside. Unfortunately, she was put back outside within 3 days.

I was doing research tonight because I'm thinking about picking out another kitten from a family of feral cats that hang around my backyard.

Sorry, this was so long and I am not really looking for an answer because I understand that I am going to react differently to every cat. I just wanted to someone to hear that if this happens to you and you find yourself a Wilma that loves you and never makes you sniffle, sneeze or cause your face to swell. Then she is an Angel and love her right back.

Hopefully the little black and white kitten I have my eye on in my backyard is a keeper.

Thanks for reading,
