I was mistaken for an employee three times in the same store
I stopped by a clothing store after work because I needed to pick up a jacket. I was wearing completely normal clothes and wasn’t carrying anything that looked like a work uniform.
A woman walked up to me and asked if they had the same jacket in another size. I told her, “Sorry, I don’t work here.”
She apologized and walked away.
About five minutes later, another customer asked me where the fitting rooms were. I pointed toward them and explained again that I was just shopping.
Then, while I was waiting in line, a man asked me if I knew whether they accepted returns without a receipt.
At that point I had to laugh. Three different people had decided I worked there without me doing anything except standing around.
I finally got my jacket and left, but I’m still curious what made me look like an employee that day.
