Car Insurance doubled after changing vehicle?

I had a 2009 Nissan Micra and recently bought a 2017 Skoda Rapid Spaceback. I went to change the vehicle on my insurance website and mistakenly thought the £51 I saw was the new price, not the addition to my £47 policy. I accepted it and now I have to pay £98 a month for the next 4 months until renewal! Is this normal? Why is it so much more expensive for a newer car that is less likely to breakdown? On comparison websites, I've been quoted £56-£64 a month. If I cancel my policy now, will I have to pay the 4 months left on my policy?
