The new Backgrounds tables section starting on p74 has "d100/d12" noted at the top of the page. How does the d12 roll work? Wouldn't that limit you to just the Desert table?
The new Cypher Character Rulebook pdf has been available for a few days now to regular book backers. Anyone have any thoughts on it? Here are some of mine:
I think the way the new genre divisions (Real World, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Superheroes) and their sub-genre categories are used in the initial steps of character creation is a good change. It seems much easier to make a classic character concept fit in the campaign universe in a more intuitive way.
On the flipside, I'm not clear on how characters built in the previous edition can be ported over. Wounds are still kind of a mystery. Since there aren't generic types like Warrior, Adept, Explorer, and Speaker offered any longer, it seems like it's a bit harder to match up the "noun" part of the Cypher character sentence.
I like the new official character sheet a lot more than the previous one. Nice layout and plenty of room for writing in abilities and foci.
I know the rules were split to keep the book from being unwieldy for use, but I really dislike splitting the rules. There have been a bunch of times while reading this pdf that I thought "I'd sure like to know more about that. SIGH."
I'm curious if anyone else has had a chance to really dive into the book yet. Any red flags so far?
