The Documentation Gap in the Battery Recall: What You Need to Know Before Your Repair Appointment

⚠️ The Problem

Volvo and the DVSA automatically clear your car from the recall database via internal updates. Because of this, main dealers are handing cars back with zero independent proof of work completed. My dealer initially offered just a verbal handshake and a software update. No invoice, no serial numbers for the new modules, nothing. We spent 90 minutes discussing the situation and working out a solution together so I could get proper paperwork and independent verification of the repair.

📋 What We Worked Out (What to Ask For):

  • Itemised Workshop Invoice: (Zero mark-up) showing all materials, hours, and labour.
  • Module Serial Numbers: Both outgoing and incoming battery modules.
  • Up-to-Date Warranty Record: Showing all transactions since registration.
  • Photos: Physical photos of the actual work, if possible.

💡 Why This Matters

With a massive wave of repairs coming over the next two months, most owners won't think to ask for this because the system doesn't force dealers to give it to you.

There's no need to be demanding. Once we sat down, talked it through, and looked at why it mattered, my dealer was incredibly helpful and happily provided everything. It's just a case of collaborating with them since the standard system doesn't prompt them to do it automatically.

Note: I've put together a free, complete checklist for this. I'll drop the link in the comments below to keep the main post clean and easy to read.
