Looking for Energy Market Jobs in Germany
Hi, all. I am an American who became a German citizen recently and I really want to move there without pausing my career in the Energy Industry. I have been applying to a bunch of jobs— market exchanges, power providers, transmission operators, regulators, and consultancies.
So far I have gotten one call back from a power provider. Most places give me automatic rejections ~24 hours later. i’m not really sure why this is because I even get these automatic rejections when I meet the language requirements and when I feel like I’m fully qualified for the job. I think I have a big disadvantage in that I am only familiar with American energy markets.
I only speak English (I’ve been learning German, but I’m still only A2/B1) so that limits me to the places that work more internationally and operate in English. Those are most commonly the consultancies. Sometimes even if a place says they need English and German I’ve applied anyway just in case.
I really want to live in a major city. I feel a desire to live in Germany because that’s where I got my citizenship. But I would consider other major cities in the EU. Though… I’ve seen some discourse on this sub Reddit suggesting that looking for work outside of Germany might be more advantageous.
I work for one of the ISOs in the USA, and have been there for 8 years, working with the Energy and Capacity Markets. I have a master’s in Energy Policy that’s really US based.
I would welcome any advice or comments or suggestions on places to apply. Thank you!
