Most of the vines produced a couple melons (or just died) but one set this absolute unit and no other female flowers. It has been taunting me for months but I finally decided to harvest it when another melon nearby split and we got another 1" overnight.
Taste is pretty good shockingly, although the rind was quite thick.
For some reason it feels cat related but I'm not entirely sure why I think that because there's clearly not any cat in the photos.
Absolutely insane lightning in the west end this evening. Like a fireworks finale at times but with a distinct lack of corndog availability.

Noticed this small "honeydew" getting nice and soft on the flower end and decided to pick it before the raccoons did. Went to cut and it was filled with treachery!
It was also filled delicious cantaloupe, so I can't be too mad. I certainly did not intentionally purchase a smooth skinned cantaloupe variety, yet that's apparently what I grew.
I love me a good summer thunderstorm but there's a limit ffs. The ground in my yard is probably going to make squelching noises when I walk across it too.

The air quality is gonna be pretty crap today as smoke from the wildfires in Canada wanders south to us (rude). Maybe dig into the drawers to find some of the leftover and 95 masks from Covid.
While we try to avoid being in the bad smoke as much as possible, what's everyone's favorite good smokey thing? Favorite barbecue, best laser light show, campfire experience, bear that encourages careful handling of said campfire experience? Whatever.

The little destructive assholes are never exactly "chill" but has anyone else noticed them being fucking insane this year? It is like a damn tour bus of them is getting dropped off in my yard every morning.
Same with the chipmunks, they are building troublesome burrows everywhere and getting into shit they never did before.
