Telc A2·B1 statt telc B1 gemacht.
Hi everyone
I've been learning a lot from other people's exam posts, so now it's my turn to give something back.
I just passed the telc Deutsch A2·B1 with 92.5% and got my B1 certificate. I prepared completely on my own, no course.
First: what is telc A2·B1?
A lot of people mix it up with the DTZ, but it's a different exam. telc introduced it in 2023 as an alternative to the DTZ. It's a scaled exam: if you score at least 70% overall, you get the same B1 certificate as the regular telc B1. Honestly, I found it noticeably easier than telc B1 or Goethe B1.
Is it accepted by the Ausländerbehörde?
Yes. You can check the official BAMF list of accepted B1 certificates
It's still fairly new, so not every centre offers it yet, but many VHS do (e.g. Esslingen, Erding, Leipzig, Lörrach, Bremen, München). Worth checking with your local VHS.
How I prepared
1.Grammar: free YouTube lessons, there's plenty out there.
2.Vocabulary: short German stories plus Quizlet flashcards. I aimed for about 20 new words a day and revised constantly.
3.Model tests (this made the biggest difference):
• For regular telc B1, Thalia has model test books.
• For A2·B1 specifically, I used the solved model tests from germanexcel What helped me was that Sprechen and Schreiben were fully solved out too, so I could see what a good answer actually looks like. The Thalia books I had didn't include solutions for those parts.
My advice: don't underestimate consistency. Small daily practice beats cramming, and doing full model tests under time pressure takes away a lot of the stress on exam day.
