I'm 19, got scammed by a language school in Morocco, but still trying to self-study German to B1. Need some motivation/tips.

Hey everyone,

I’m 19 from Morocco and honestly just looking for some advice or even just some positive words because keeping up the consistency completely alone in my room is starting to get really tough.

My original plan was to move to Germany for university, but the blocked account (Sperrkonto) is a massive financial wall for me and my family. Freezing that much money just isn't possible right now. Then I found out about Ausbildung, which felt perfect since you get a stipend and don't need that huge amount of money upfront.

To start preparing, I saved up and went to a private language academy here in Morocco. Long story short, I got scammed. They took a lot of my money, the teaching was non-existent, and I learned barely anything compared to what I paid. I was so depressed and stressed about the money loss that I completely quit German for a while.

But this last month I realized I can't let that scam school ruin my future. I'm 19 and I need to make this work. Since I can't afford another school, I decided to self-study the rest of the way.

Right now my level is around a solid A1 (I know basic structure, word order, modals, and basic Dativ rules), but my goal is to hit B1 by October so I can start applying for Ausbildungs.

I made a schedule to study 4 hours every single morning, but doing this totally isolated is mentally heavy and some days I feel stuck.

For anyone who self-studied from A1 to B1:

  • How did you stay consistent when you felt overwhelmed or unmotivated?
  • Are there any good free/cheap resources that actually worked for writing and listening?

Any tips or just some encouragement would mean the world to me right now. It’s been a rough couple of weeks but I really want to pull this off.

Thanks guys.

Hey everyone so im A1 Beginner in Germany

I'm a beginner in learning German and very interested in learning it during my vacation. Do you have any tips to improve my language skills?

Also, I don't take courses; I learn on my own from YouTube and various websites, etc found memorizing masculine and feminine forms a little difficult..

Deutsch mit Spaß lernen

Hallo Leute,

Looking for a German Speaking partner

Hi everyone!
I'm currently at A2 level in German and I'm looking for someone who would like to practice speaking with me.
I'm trying to build a consistent routine where we have regular conversations, discuss different topics, and correct each other's mistakes. My goal is to improve my speaking fluency and become more confident in German.
If you're patient, enjoy helping others, and also want to practice speaking, feel free to send me a message.
Thanks!

Hallo, language learning exchange

Hi everyone!

I’m currently learning German and I’m at the A2 level. I’m looking for someone who speaks German fluently and would be interested in practicing speaking with me on a regular basis.

In exchange, I’d be happy to help you practice Arabic (native), English (fluent), or Greek (fluent).

I’m mainly looking for relaxed conversations where we can help each other improve. If you’re patient and enjoy language exchange, feel free to send me a message!

Looking forward to hearing from you. 😊

You can also mention your time zone or how often you’d like to practice

Started a Discord server mainly for beginner German learners.

The goal is to practice speaking, stay consistent, keep each other accountable, track progress, and build a collection of useful resources (apps, courses, books, etc.) as we go.

If you're a beginner who's serious about learning German and wants people to practice with regularly, comment or DM me for an invite. 🇩🇪🫡

26M | Looking for a Reading Buddy, German Learner, and Hopefully a Long-Term Friend 📚🇩🇪

Hi everyone!
Lately I’ve realized that most of my day is just work, reading, trying to learn German, and convincing myself I’ll sleep early (I never do).

I’m 27 M from India and I’m hoping to meet people who enjoy genuine conversations. I’m not looking for hundreds of chats just a few people who actually stick around.
A little about me:

🌴 Trying to build a consistent reading habit.
Currently into biographies, psychology, and selfimprovement (but I’m slowly exploring fiction too).

🌳Learning German, so if you’re learning too… wir können zusammen lernen 😄

🌲I enjoy talking about books, life, movies, different cultures, random late-night thoughts, and almost anything interesting.

Now for the funny part…🤡
I know Reddit has a law where girls post “looking for friends” and get 200 DMs in 10 minutes, while guys post the same thing and hear crickets. 😂
So if you’re one of the rare people who actually reads posts instead of checking the title and gender first… congratulations, you’ve already passed the first test.
Whether you’re a guy or a girl, if you’re kind, respectful, and enjoy good conversations, feel free to message me.😊

After a Year in Germany, I Still Can't Speak German. Help!

I moved to Germany last year and started learning German on my own using YouTube, AI, and any good resources I could find.

When I renewed my visa, the Ausländerbehörde required me to take the integration course, so I enrolled in March 2026.

The classes are mostly in German, which has really improved my listening. I can understand a lot of basic German now, but I still struggle to speak.

Everyone tells me, "Just speak, even if your grammar is wrong." The problem is that I don't know what to say beyond basic everyday sentences. My mind just goes blank.

Has anyone been in the same situation? What helped you start speaking more naturally? How did you get past the point where you understood more than you could actually say?

What's the difference between gern and gerne?

Hi, pretty much what the title says, is it like a dialect thing? Or is there a grammatic difference?

Thank you all for responding

The German -er sound

Hi, just had a quick question about the -er sound. I’ve noticed sometimes ( like at the end of a word ) it makes more of an “uh” sound. Whereas sometimes, like in the word er (he), or when it’s not at the end of a word it sometimes makes more of an “ay-uh” sound.

Is there a specific rule that this follows, or is it just something that is more easily picked up by just listening to a lot of words? Is it even a big deal or does it vary by region anyway?

Deutsch fürs Flirten?

Hallo meine Freunde.
