Fiction books recommendations for A2 level

I learned English through reading, and I am a avid reader, I want to read a couple of easy books in german, I read fiction, fantasy, thriller, YA, and maybe romance sometimes.

Open to your suggestions, I did search the internet for recommendations, but I found books that were mainly targeted towards learning itself, and not just fiction meant for fun/pleasure.

So please drop in your suggestions! Danke schön

Hilfe beim Entziffern einer gotischen Handschrift

Guten Tag,

Great podcast resource for learners (B1+ and above)

I'm currently around B1+ level and trying to get to B2, and I found the "Auf Deutsch Gesagt" podcast and love it! The variety of themes and guests from all different subject areas is so engaging, and I love the free included vocab lists. This podcast is such a gem, and I wanted to share in case anyone has been looking for more advanced listening practice that isn't targeted for beginners. The themes can be quite abstract and difficult (for me personally) to completely understand at my current level because they speak fast and often with complex vocab and sayings that some learners like myself might not know of. But for this, the Sprachanalyse part of the episode is extremely helpful.

Stuck at A2 for 14 months

I'm so tired and I honestly want to give up.

I have been studying for 14 months. On and off due to mental health issues.

I have never studied something so difficult. I have finished my university degree and I love learning STEM but jesus christ this is so difficult. Unfucking believable. :(

I'm just honestly venting. I feel like crying....

The progress is so slow. I do not know maybe I'm just freaking dumb. I do not need validation. I'm just venting. I'm so fed up.

I'm just self-studying it but god damn it's so hard... like I have been studying so hard but it just doesn't stick.... :( I feel like crying honestly

I'm sorry for venting... I'm just... so fucking fed up...

Edit: Downvote me if you want I do not care. Nice to see people just winging the entire thing easily good for you all.

Anyone else struggle to stay consistent with German vocab?

Lately I have been doing something smaller, just a few words every day, no long sessions.

I also put a daily word on my lock screen widget, so I keep seeing it throughout the day, and I try to do a quick quiz on the words I have learned.

What have you been doing to make vocab stick?

Der Die Das / big VS small grammar mistakes question!

So I’m sure most of us use Der Die Das incorrectly from time to time, my question is, if I were to say Die Hund (wrong) instead of Der Hund (correct) to a native German speaker, I assume the native speaker will obviously know what I mean right? I suppose what I’m asking is, how “severe” is it to use the wrong Der Die Das? Like is it a little mistake or severe? I assume it’s no big deal right? Like what are some groß (big) grammar mistakes, and what are some klein (small) grammar mistakes? What should I lookout for? Anywho, I appreciate any help or responses! Tschüss!

A simple A1 German study stack that doesn’t rely on one app

A lot of beginners ask “what app should I use?”, but I think the better answer is: don’t expect one app to teach you German.

German needs a few separate things:

1. Structure

Use DW Nicos Weg or a proper A1 textbook/course. You need something that introduces grammar in order, otherwise German becomes confusing very quickly.

2. Vocabulary retention

Use a spaced repetition tool so words come back before you forget them.

Good options:

- Anki: most flexible, best if you like building your own cards

- Quizlet: easier, less serious but quick to start

- Wortz - German Vocabulary : good if you’re on iPhone and specifically want German vocabulary with images, pronunciation, der/die/das tips, and spaced repetition already set up

The important rule: never save nouns without the article. Learn “der Hund”, “die Stadt”, “das Haus”, not just “Hund/Stadt/Haus”.

3. Listening

Use Easy German, DW slow news, or Nicos Weg videos. Even if you understand only 20%, your ear needs regular German input.

4. Pronunciation

Use Forvo or the audio inside whatever app you use. Don’t silently memorize words only from text.

5. Output

Once you know basic sentence structure, start writing tiny sentences:

- Ich habe ein Auto.

- Das ist meine Tasche.

- Ich wohne in Berlin.

- Heute lerne ich Deutsch.

You don’t need complex sentences at A1. You need correct simple ones.

A realistic daily routine could be:

20 minutes Nicos Weg / textbook

10 minutes vocab review

10 minutes listening

5 minutes writing 3 simple sentences

That’s much better than jumping between five apps and feeling productive without actually building a base.

Looking for beginner German learners to practice together

Hey everyone,

I’m currently learning German at around B1 level and wanted to connect with people who are starting A1/A2.

I enjoy explaining beginner grammar topics like:

  • sentence structure
  • verb positions
  • pronunciation
  • basic conversations
  • common beginner mistakes

I’m a native Hindi speaker and fluent in English, so I thought it could be fun to practice together and improve consistently.

I also want to polish my own German along the way, so this is more of a mutual learning/study partner idea rather than formal teaching.

We can practice for free over Google Meet occasionally and help each other stay consistent with German learning.

If anyone is also learning German and wants to practice regularly, feel free to comment or reach out.

Danke!

Free app to learn German

I suddenly got interested in learning German and I'm looking for an app that would be free and not so restricted, the apps I tried seemed free but forced me to buy subscription after a few lessons. I've tried duolingo(don't think it's effective in teaching) babbel and mango languages. I'm not looking for advanced features I just want a useful and casual learning app. I'm also close to zero on the language, only know basic phrases.
