My uncommon take-Duolingo

My uncommon take-Duolingo

I have been self learning German for a while now. I have seen numerous takes revolving Duolingo as a learning tool. When starting out I was all over the place searching free online tools.I started straight out on Duolingo. Yes! lots and lots of repetition. I learned Milch oder Kaffee before I understood German noun rules.I felt frustrated and broke my streak.I found out later about structured learning necessity for everyone foreign language beginner. So I stuck with one YouTube tutor through the structured courses. But I have no class, no study group,no buddy no workbooks and I'm a working adult. So most days, I'm either tired, unmotivated or just busy to learn something new. On these days, that's where Duolingo works for me.The repetition, the leagues competition, the small notes on the side and the explain my mistake features. They take me a long way.I'll do a lesson in a public transport, around idle chatter, etc.I'll play with words I don't understand on Duolingo and when I encounter them on my structured learning the sinking understanding hits different. Since my only immersion is German podcasts and music, I'm going to stick with Duolingo for now.

How much is too much?

I started working for this company 3 months ago. It so happens I started the same time with another supervisor. We are both contractors (from different companies)but he has a team under him while I don't. Whatever I can't handle I'm supposed to let him know and he is expected to send some people my way. So from day one he has been acting like we are in a competition. We receive the same report and briefing but he never aligns with the objective of the tasks in hand.if I ask he will blatantly lie about everyone being busy. He refuses to send me help unless the client asks. He will then act very friendly asking what I need. If I use a different channel to ask for assistance they will come full of passive aggressive speaking Hindi and basically very unprofessional behaviour. I have been asked severally if all is well but I never told the client the truth. The most I have said is we are finding the balance. I have tried to understand if it's a gender, race or just experience issue.

I avoid reporting everything because I don't want to turn the environment hostile for myself. But now it's getting worse. Today I feel like I'm not helping myself either. Someone from his team took an item I'm fully responsible for managing. I received these items less than two weeks ago.Since then we haven't had an occasion in the business to utilise these items. So today I just noticed one missing. I don't even know the exact day someone took it. I was just doing end week inventory and noticed the missing one. I just feel so bad. How will I explain the shortage.? Reporting it might blow up.

I just don't know what to do.I purpose everyday to just do my job and go home. I hate being home and thinking about work. Should I report everything that goes on or just the missing item?

The art of unbothered

Is he sleeping? Absolutely not! Is the place quiet? Not even close. Its a super busy entry to the restaurant. He got attitude. He is literally reminding us we are visitors and he is a permanent household member! 😀

Private housekeeper UAE

I have been recently searching for private housekeeper prospects in UAE. A little backstory,, I worked for a certain company (BPO)in its Nairobi Branch for 7 years. So I was confident I'm a skilled female coming to thrive in UAE. In 2025 I squeezed my life In 2 bags and left everything behind.Looking back I wish I knew what I know now but I'm not punishing myself for not knowing. I landed in the middle of summer.i knew no one in Dubai. Bedspace. The Heat. The crazy job search. Visa running out. Long story short I got a housekeeping job in a 5star hotel resort in Palm Jumeirah. It has been an experience. I still believe I'm no ordinary housekeeper. My skill set and my brain is above the clean and dust.I respect my humble restart for the lessons I learn on a daily basis.

This got me wondering, are there people looking for more than a housemaid in this UAE. From testimonies around me, most employers prefer a timid and very shrank help. No one wants the help planning on outlook, storing in Microsoft, etc. But I'm asking here on a broader channel, are there executive or personal housekeepers/household assistant opportunities in UAE?
