Back brace recommendations for a 14 yo Staffy with an IVDD relapse? (Wiggleless fit issues due to Staffy chest/body shape)
I'm looking for advice and recommendations from fellow Staffy (or broad-chested dog) owners regarding back braces for IVDD.
My 14-year-old Staffy had his first IVDD episode about 1.5 years ago. He fully recovered back then without surgery, but unfortunately, he has just relapsed. He can still walk, but on some days his hind legs spasm and give way. Per our vet's instructions, he's currently on strict crate rest and only comes out 3 times a day for short toilet breaks, as the vet recommended a tiny bit of controlled movement.
I’ve been looking into back braces to support his spine, and I checked out the Wiggleless brace. However, given the typical Staffy body shape (broad chest, thick neck, tucked waist), I'm really concerned about getting a proper, secure fit.
Has anyone with a Staffy (or similar stocky/broad-chested breed) used a back brace that worked well for IVDD?
- What brand or model did you use?
- How was your experience with the fit, comfort, and support?
Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
