Designing on car vs Creating a Design

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but I have tried putting some things on cars that look great in the garage, but as soon as I am out in free roam it isn't matched up at all on where I put them. Is this a known issue when doing the designs on the car itself?

Is there an easy way to design the vinyls without the car and still use like a car overlay to make said design?
