Teaching the Odyssey

Hi everyone! This is my first year teaching 9th grade. Our first text is The Odyssey. How can I teach this for students so it’s engaging, and interesting for them. Also, how do I introduce the unit to them?

Is it normal to have more than one prep class?

Hi everyone! I’’m a first year teacher. I am currently teaching ELA for 9th & 10th grade students. As well as Intensive reading. Therefore, I have 3 preps. I wanted to know if this is normal. I’m used to seeing ELA teachers have one prep, sometimes 2 but that is rare. I don’t know what to do, because the workload has been way too much. I’m always working & don’t have enough time. I’m also teaching at a charter school, and I was told that I would only be teaching 9th grade.

Teachers: What is your late work system for students?

Hi! I will be going into my first year of teaching. I will be teaching 9th grade English. Something that I don’t want to be spending so much time on is grading late work. I want to have a clear system. According to my district, students have up to 72 hours to make up an assignment if the absence is excused. if they try to make up the assignment after a week, then teachers have told me that they don’t accept it. I would like to adapt this in my classroom. However, I wanted to know, if students have already work, do you tell them to send an email, tell you in person during class, or complete a Google Form made by the teacher for late work. Please, let me know. Also, If you have any other tips, I’ll be glad to read them! ☺️
