Update: Kinda Annoyed Without Onstar

I previously asked about the Onstar Connect Plus package specifically. I know there are several that come included for 8 years, but there were two that only had a 30 day trial - Connect Plus and Protect. I’m not too worried about Protect, but I’m kind of already missing Connect Plus.

Without it, Google maps is pretty useless. I didn’t realize there was no Apple CarPlay until I was getting ready to leave with my car and the sales guy was showing me everything (stupid of me, I know… it literally never occurred to me that it wouldn’t be). I used to use Waze via my phone for traffic info on my commute. I ended up just using Google Maps because it was right there and I kinda liked it, especially with the battery level estimates and whatnot.

Now, it’s “offline” so it is only good for directions, but no traffic info. And I know how to get to work, I need to know if there is an accident or something.

Other than that, the video streaming was nice, but not necessary. I don’t want to play games and I haven’t found any need for the browser. I didn’t realize the car had a hotspot until the trial was almost up.

I guess I’m wondering if I am missing a way to get at the very least a better traffic app? I found a discount code for Onstar so I can save a few bucks and it won’t break me but I’m trying not to throw money away.

Does everyone have Onstar?

I got my Equinox 4/18 so my free trial of Onstar is almost up. I was looking at the packages today and wondering if any are worth paying for. The only one I can see as somewhat useful is Onstar Connect Plus. The hotspot might be nice for my daughter to use instead of the one on my phone and I’ve enjoyed watching The Office while I’m waiting around in my car, but I’m not sure how much I’ll actually use it.

Can anyone offer some advice or insight?

I recently ordered 2 custom license plate frames. When I placed the order, it said the estimated delivery date was 4/21-5/11. The store shows at being in San Diego, which is only like 5 hours from here. I was optimistic that I’d get it before Mother’s Day, but no big deal if I didn’t.

A couple days after placing the order, I was sent designs to review. Less than an hour later, I gave the okay.

8 days after that (4/29) I got a shipping confirmation. Yesterday (4/30) I was able to see tracking info and found out it’s coming from China.

Maybe I’m overreacting, but I feel kind of mislead by this. Either they lied about being in San Diego or they are and they aren’t actually making these themselves. It just feels shady.

Not to mention, the estimated delivery was extended by a week. I haven’t done anything to drag this out, so I can’t see how they weren’t dishonest about this as well.

I was discussing this with my friend and she agreed I should mention all this in my review when the time comes, but is that unfair of me to do without speaking to the shop first? Or should I just shut up about it?
