Do we really need to upgrade robot vacuums that often?

I’ve started feeling like people upgrade robot vacuums too quickly.

A new model comes out, and suddenly everyone feels like their current one is outdated. But if the robot still maps properly, docks normally, and finishes the job, I’m not sure upgrading is always necessary.

A lot of “bad performance” seems to come from neglected parts: dirty filters, tangled brushes, worn mop pads, full dust bags, etc.

In many cases, replacing parts regularly and keeping the robot well maintained seems more practical than buying a new one.

To me, the best robot vacuum isn’t always the newest one — it’s the one that actually fits your home and is well maintained.

A lot of “bad performance” seems to come from neglected parts: dirty filters, tangled brushes, worn mop pads, full dust bags, etc. Of course, the quality and price of replacement parts can vary a lot. If you need them in larger quantities, you can look for suppliers on Alibaba, such as TechTongBo.

Long-term experience with third-party cleaning solutions?

Hey everyone, has anyone been using third-party cleaning solutions in their robot vacuum for the long term? How's the performance so far, and are there any specific things I should watch out for?
And where are you guys sourcing yours from? Any particular ones you'd recommend?

At first glance, they look pretty similar. But once you break it down, there are actually some interesting changes:

  • The roller mop on the X12 is noticeably larger (~27 cm), which should mean better coverage per pass
  • There’s a new “FocusJet” water system that sprays directly onto stains instead of just soaking the mop internally
  • The main brush system (ZeroTangle 4.0) now uses airflow to pull hair away instead of just preventing tangles
  • The dustbin is still bagless, but now has a manual scraper mechanism to keep filters clean.

With the launch of the Saros 20 Sonic, many people are looking to upgrade their robot vacuums, with some making the jump directly from the Saros 10.

And are your leftover Saros 10 spare parts perfectly compatible with the new Saros 20 Sonic?

Roborock Saros 20 Sonic Accessories

Compatible:

  • Main Roller Brushes: The red and black dual-rubber brushes are identical.
  • Side Brushes: The classic spinning brushes transfer over perfectly.
  • Dust Bags: Your leftover bags will work in the new dock.

Not compatible:

  • HEPA Filters: The Saros 10 filter has an irregular, L-shaped notch. The Saros 20 Sonic uses a standard rectangle.
  • Small Circular Pads: The Saros 10 utilized a small, rotating circular mop pad for edge cleaning. The Saros 20 Sonic has dropped this design. These are no longer needed.
  • Large Semi-Circle Pads: While the large vibration mop pads look structurally similar, the exact placement of the velcro attachments and the vibration plate grooves often shift.
