Any recommendations for a budget minded vacuum? (no mop)

This would be a light duty use sort of thing. Just linoleum and tile floors on a perfectly flat slab foundation, no trim or rugs. We live in an area with dusty dirt and have a single short hair cat. The most difficult thing the vacuum would face is a little cat litter.

I'm aiming for rather cheap here, so play a little budget limbo if you could. I really don't need it to do anything beyond keeping the floors from having debris.

Since everyone got mad that my dog basically owns the floor

My dog sheds like he pays rent in fur. I used to think the whole robot vacuum decision was just “which one picks up the most hair,” but after living with a dog, that feels way too simple. The hair is the obvious part. The gross part is paw dust, slobber near the water bowl, crushed treats, whatever gets dragged in from the yard, and then the mop going over all of that like it is doing community service. I also really do not want a monthly subscription just to keep my floors normal. Maybe I’m old now, idk, but paying forever so a vacuum can remember my hallway feels insane.

What I actually care about is whether it can run every day, keep pet hair from building up, wash the mop enough that it is not just spreading yesterday around, and not turn the dock into a swamp. The health part is what changed my mind. My dog licks the floor. He sleeps on the floor. Sometimes I drop food and lie to myself about the five second rule. So yeah, “clean enough” feels different in a pet house. Pet owners here, what are you prioritizing now: no subscription, suction, mop hygiene, filtration, or just whatever requires the least babysitting?

Having three long-haired dogs finally made me understand expensive robot vacuums.

I have three long-haired dogs, so dog hair basically never stops existing in my house.

I tried a cheaper robot vacuum years ago (a ecovacs deebot 500) and wrote the whole category off after that. It got stuck constantly, missed random spots, and I usually still had to vacuum afterward, so it felt like one more thing to babysit.

Recently I gave it another shot and got this dreame x60 Ultra, mostly because I wanted something that could handle hair better and not get lost under furniture every other run.

It’s not like my floors are spotless 24/7 now, but the daily fur situation feels a lot less overwhelming, which is basically what I was hoping for.

For pet owners, I kind of get now why people spend more on these instead of buying the cheapest option and hoping for the best.

Pet hair or allergies or something else?

I swear the dog is in some kind of passive aggressive partnership with the floors. I vacuum manually, feel proud for 14 minutes, then sunlight hits the stairs and boom, fur confetti. We’re in a US two level house, carpet upstairs, hard floors downstairs, and I’m trying to figure out what actually matters for pet owners with allergies in 2026 without turning this into a “buy the most expensive robot and pray” situation. I’ve been comparing them by hair pickup on carpet, filter access, brush tangles, dock smell after a week, cliff sensors on stairs, and whether the app lets me split rooms without needing a computer science minor.

The annoying part is every option seems to win one category and faceplant in another. Great on hard floors, meh on thick carpet. Quiet enough at night, but the auto empty wakes the house. Good obstacle avoidance, but suddenly terrified of a black rug. I don’t need perfect. I need something that can run often enough that my nose stops acting like it pays rent here. What are you all prioritizing for pets plus allergies, actual filtration, carpet agitation, mapping, or just raw run frequency?

Need better robot

I bought the Roborock qrevo pro a little over a year ago. I had heard a lot of good things about the company and decided that if I was going to invest a lot in one then I should try to get one that won’t break down easily. Within a year of having the robot it got a main brush error that came from faulty equipment but thankfully they replaced it for free since it was within the year warranty. 3 months after the warranty expired it threw another code again. Roborock quoted me almost $150 to fix it or 10% off a robot that didn’t currently have a sale. I fixed it myself by buying a part online and replacing it. 2 months after that a different error showed up. I reached out to Roborock explaining how frustrated I was that within less than 2 years a robot that cost $600 broke down 3 times already, 2 of which were out of warranty. Again they offered me the option for paying to fix it or a $20 discount. I’m so frustrated with this since the robot was great while it worked but I’m not paying a yearly fee of $600 to clean my house by buying a robot every year since they seem to break down so easily. I really need recommendations of robots that vacuum and mop and that have a good warranty or will be reliable. I will not be buying a Roborock again so preferably any other good brands.

Any pet owners using the mova Z60 Ultra?

After getting a cat, the biggest cleaning issue hasn’t been regular dust, but cat hair. I thought I was doing a good job cleaning, but I still found hair in places like under the bed, on carpets, and in corners I don’t really notice.

I've got a budget of about $900-$1000 for a robot vacuum and have been looking into models that are good for pet owners. Based on my budget, I've narrowed it down to the mova z60 ultra.

I mainly care about stuff like how well it picks up hair from carpets, whether the roller brush gets tangled, any odor issues, and how much maintenance it needs.

On paper z60 looks like a decent option. Has anyone actually used it? what's your take on it?

QRevo Edge 2 Owner

Recently purchased a QRevo Edge 2 to replace my S8+ after a mishap with some dog poop…

Spent countless hours, Claude sessions and YouTube videos figuring out what unit to get and landed on the newly released Edge 2! First unit arrived defective and refused to charge or dock properly. Returned to Amazon and Roborock gave me a $40 discount and two free bags (lol); their customer service is such a negative.

The new unit has been working flawlessly! What sold me on a new release with little reviews was the fact this model has 90% of the Saros 20 features in a much cheaper unit and more tried and true lidar based navigation instead of time of flight.

So far, the cleaning, navigation, dock and all else has been incredibly good. Things like the ability for the robot to leave the mop pads, lower its lidar when needed and identify wet messes when vacuuming via the camera have worked great in my real world use cases. I’ve had 0 issues both in navigation with two dogs and a messy fiancée. Mopping has been incredibly effective and vacuuming while not a data driven test, does seem better with the higher alleged 25,000 pa of suction. I don’t need threshold climbing which the Saros 20 has although this does have a higher threshold climbing ability. The only feature the Saros 20 has as well as the Edge 2 Pro (not currently sold in the U.S.) is the adapt lift chasis is used to lower or raise the robot on carpet for a better suction seal, versus this having a powered, raised or lowered brush head. How well does one work over the other? Who’s to say. But that was the main feature I felt I was giving up on.

All in all, given the speed these models change and the ever growing list of models. The Edge series has always has strong reviews from online reviewers and the Edge 2 was a great choice to get alot go the flagship features without flagship pricing or headaches I’ve seen of people with Saros 20!

Hope this helps some sad soul in the rabbit hole of purchase fatigue.

My old robot vacuum died, is the Dreame X60 Ultra worth buying?

I've been using a ECOVACS DEEBOT U2 for the past few years and it was decent for basic cleaning, but it finally started dying recently so now I'm thinking about upgrading to something more high-end.

My apartment is mostly hard floors and I have two cat, so there's always fur, litter, and dust around. The U2 handled simple vacuuming fine, but it definitely felt limited compared to newer models, like, no advanced smart mapping, pretty basic navigation, and it needed a lot more babysitting than I'd like.

Lately I've been looking at the Dreame X60 Ultra because I want something more hands-off with better obstacle avoidance and smarter mapping that can actually clean consistently without constantly getting stuck or confused.

How has it been long term? Any pros or cons or things you wish you knew before buying?

Best Vacuum/Mop Combo for $200 or Less?

Hi all. I am looking to get a $200 USD or less vacuum/mop combo. Are iRobot's J7+ (refurb for $160) or 105 ($170) combo or 205 combo ($250) worth it?

How about the Roborock Q7 M5 ($150)? Looking for specials for Memorial Day. Thanks!

Mova V50 Scraping Trim/Baseboards

Have a Mova V50 (Kevin) that keeps running up against my white trim in my house and scraping the paint off of it. I’m at my wit’s end with this thing. It seems like every time I see it vacuuming a room it’s just right up against the trim in each room. Anyone have this issue and figure out a fix? I can’t figure it out for the life of me.

Are most of the robot vacuums (under $500) with rotating cleaning pads really crap, unless they have a AI feature?

Hi,

I have a Xiaomi Robot Vacuum (v1 / The one built by Roborock) and it can't wipe the floor. Back when I got it there weren't any options on the market and devices would just have a cloth that smeared the dirt around the flat.

Nowadays they look pretty advanced and rotating mops seem to look promising. However, the best and most detailed review website that I found (https://www.smarthomeassistent.de/saugroboter/) seems to score most devices pretty poorly. Whenever the testers wipe the floor by hand after the device is done, the washcloth is very dirty.

Roborock Qrevo Master - Failed Most Tests
Dreame L50s Pro Ultra - Really weak
Roborock Q10 X5+ - Terrible too

Dreame L40s Pro Ultra seems to be the only device that sometimes is on offer at this price point and that gets good scores as it has a "AI" feature that detects dirt and goes over the stain until it's clean.

As that is a feature that I don't really trust on my floor pattern.

I also know the high end devices have rolls instead of rotating pads and they are better.

So, I'm wondering if I should:

  • A) keep ignoring mopping in my price range OR
  • B) are these tests misleading and if I know something is dirty I can just let the robot run over this particular spot multiple times to get a good results anyway?

[Academic] Own or ever owned a robot vacuum? Repair behavior survey (Everyone)

Hi r/SampleSize,

I'm a final-year business student at KLU Hamburg writing my bachelor thesis on consumer repair behavior for robot vacuums.

The survey takes 8–10 minutes and is open to anyone who currently owns or has previously owned a robot vacuum — brand and price range don't matter, and you qualify whether you still have it or not.

The study explores how owners feel about their devices and what they decide when something breaks: repair, replace, or something else. It feeds into a broader thesis on when it makes strategic sense for manufacturers to invest in repair programs beyond what EU regulation requires.

Happy to share aggregate results here once the thesis is complete — just drop a comment or DM.

Thanks!

Do we really need to upgrade robot vacuums that often?

I’ve started feeling like people upgrade robot vacuums too quickly.

A new model comes out, and suddenly everyone feels like their current one is outdated. But if the robot still maps properly, docks normally, and finishes the job, I’m not sure upgrading is always necessary.

A lot of “bad performance” seems to come from neglected parts: dirty filters, tangled brushes, worn mop pads, full dust bags, etc.

In many cases, replacing parts regularly and keeping the robot well maintained seems more practical than buying a new one.

To me, the best robot vacuum isn’t always the newest one — it’s the one that actually fits your home and is well maintained.

Flow 2 Matter Integration

Hi everyone,

I can’t get the matter Integration with Apple HomeKit to work. Who had problems with Matter and has been able to fix it? Who still has issues with it?

Maybe we can make this topic more visible together to get a fix or some kind of feedback from Narwal.

Colin Angle, who helped turn Roomba into a household name, is now working on something very different.

His new company, Familiar Machines & Magic, is building a home robot that isn’t focused on cleaning at all. Instead of another vacuum or mop, the goal is a mobile companion that can move around the house, follow people, and interact more like a pet than an appliance.

The idea seems to come from a limitation Angle ran into at iRobot. Expanding beyond vacuuming into things like mopping never really took off, partly because those tasks don’t justify the same kind of spending. So rather than stacking more chores onto a robot, this new approach leans into presence and interaction.

First time robovac buyer

This is our first time dipping a toe into the robot vacuum space, I have been doing some research online but it seems like there is just an endless amount of brands and models out there. My wife and I have two golden retrievers in a house with mostly hardwood floors and a few rugs so we are mainly looking to get something to manage fur, dust, and mop the floors because they always track dirt and mud in from outside. We would like to get something with one of the auto emptying towers. I would also like to keep the budget under $700. Does anyone have any recommendations?

robovac for small apartment bedroom

80% of why I want one is that this is my first time living in a bedroom with hardwood floors, and also first time owning a cat. He tracks litter everywhere in the bedroom and bathroom and I hate stepping on it, or the feeling of stepping on any kind of dirt.

I have been sweeping every day but i dont want to spend any more time on this, I have a lot of stuff to do most days.

I just want the cat litter to be as close to a non issue as possible. mopping would be nice but not needed

No idea what to even look for

2k square foot house. All fake wood floors except the 4 bedrooms are carpet. Tile in both bathrooms. Started to research and didn’t realize the robot vacuum market is so saturated. Any advice or recommendations?
