New IMAX Theaters: Ceiling Speakers Are Now Angled Toward the Audience

I've noticed that in newer IMAX installations, the additional ceiling speakers are angled toward the audience, whereas in older IMAX theaters they were mounted straight down.

Am I correct in thinking that the angled speakers direct more of the sound toward the audience, instead of having some of it reflect off the walls ?

If this is indeed a better design, why doesn't IMAX retrofit older theaters by angling the ceiling speakers as well? Is there a technical reason, or is it simply not worth the cost?

Disappointment Regarding the Absence of IMAX Releases for Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday

Dear IMAX Team,

I would like to express my deep disappointment regarding the apparent absence of IMAX releases for Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday.

​

These are two of the most anticipated films of the decade, with the potential to surpass $2 billion at the worldwide box office. The Marvel brand and the IMAX experience have always gone hand in hand, and countless moviegoers expect to experience these blockbusters in the premium format that IMAX represents.

​

Failing to provide IMAX releases for films of this magnitude would be a major mistake, not only from the perspective of fans, but also from a business standpoint. It would represent a significant missed opportunity and a considerable loss of revenue for IMAX.

​

Audiences around the world are willing to pay a premium for the immersive picture and sound experience that IMAX offers. Excluding two films that are expected to be among the biggest cinematic events in history would be difficult to understand.

​

I sincerely hope that IMAX will reconsider this decision and ensure that both Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday receive the IMAX releases they deserve.
