Christopher Nolan shares new insights on The Odyssey during recent interview

David wasn't just a colleague—he was a mentor, a friend, and someone who helped shape the film community at IMAX.

Those of us who had the privilege of working alongside him every day—including the Film team, the Negative Cutting team, and, of course, myself—learned from his experience, relied on his guidance, and appreciated the passion he brought to his work. He had an incredible depth of knowledge, but what made David truly special was his willingness to share it. He always made time to teach, help, and support those around him.

His impact reached far beyond the projects he worked on. He helped build a team, a culture, and lasting friendships. The lessons he passed on and the example he set will continue to live on in all of us who had the honor of knowing and working with him.

David will be deeply missed, but he will never be forgotten. His legacy lives on through every one of us whose lives and careers he touched.

How do they add visual effects to IMAX 70mm?

If the film is a physical print and they are physically editing the film. How does color grading or more importantly, visual effects get added in the process?

Dune 3 preview before The Odyssey?

What are the chances that we get the 7-8 minutes of Dune: Part 3 shown at CinemaCon in front of 70mm IMAX screenings of The Odyssey? I heard somewhere that 70mm prints can only have 3hrs on them, and if The Odyssey runtime is 2hr52mins, that 7-8 preview would put it right around the 3hr mark.

Both films also shot in 70mm so it would make sense for them to tease the next big release in the format.

New IMAX Theaters: Ceiling Speakers Are Now Angled Toward the Audience

I've noticed that in newer IMAX installations, the additional ceiling speakers are angled toward the audience, whereas in older IMAX theaters they were mounted straight down.

Am I correct in thinking that the angled speakers direct more of the sound toward the audience, instead of having some of it reflect off the walls ?

If this is indeed a better design, why doesn't IMAX retrofit older theaters by angling the ceiling speakers as well? Is there a technical reason, or is it simply not worth the cost?

Local “Liemax” Theatre marking The Odyssey screenings as 70mm

This has just got me puzzled. My local theatre has a Xenon/Liemax screen but is seemingly marking screenings of The Odyssey as 70mm. I guess there’s some chance they’ve picked up a 70mm projector and retrofitted it to the space? But I really doubt it.

How’s for an IMAX screen

(Regal Waterford lakes) I was so surprised at how bad this screen is I had to document it, I usually go to Altamonte mall and it’s a much better experience over there for IMAX despite being another smaller 1:90 venue

I just got my hands on Interstellar's 4K UHD Blu-ray print

I’ve watched Interstellar on Prime Video at least three or four times, and it always seemed fine. But I recently got my hands on a Blu-ray copy, and it is an absolute game-changer. It feels easily ten times better than the streaming version. The most mind-blowing part is how the movie shifts between standard CinemaScope (2.39:1) and full-screen IMAX (1.78:1). Watching those full-screen shots on my 4K OLED monitor looks absolutely unreal. The jump from the restricted widescreen scenes to the massive IMAX sequences is breathtaking; the contrast, brightness, and sharpness are on a completely different level. I have turned into a IMAX nerd recently and I just wanted to share my experience with people of similar intrests. Please excuse me if I got wrong on some technical things, I am new to it. I also attached pictures of it if you are intrested to see.

Who's Waiting to See The Odyssey in 70mm IMAX!?

I just wanted to see how many of you guys couldn't get 70mm IMAX tickets for release day so are going to wait to see the film for the first time in 70mm IMAX.

My tickets are for the 4th August and I'm beyond excited but it's going to be a struggle not seeing the film in a different format before then! I'm going to try to resist though...

Dune part 3 exclusive sneak peak invitation

Hi there,

I recently received an invitation for an exclusive sneak peek of the new Dune 3 trailer and special footage. There will also be a live-streamed Q&A session with Denis Villeneuve. I filled out the form and received a pass for the screening in Chicago. I’ve never been to anything like this before. I live three hours away from the screening location and will need to take time off from work to attend. I’m really excited about Dune 3 and have already secured tickets for the premiere. I’m wondering if it’s worth all the effort to go see this exclusive screening. Can someone give me some insight into how these things work? Will it be worthwhile?
