You try to remember to leave a little lip on the end for ease of use… but you don’t, because you’re so focused on taping up whatever chaos project is in front of you. So the tape seals itself back onto the roll, and suddenly you’re spending the next decade trying to find the end again.

Round and round and round. Where the F is it.

It’s even worse when someone else has done - it and left the roll completely smooth. No lip. Just a sticky cylinder of suffering

Then you finally find a corner, start pulling it… and it tears diagonally.

Again.

And again.

And AGAIN.

And don’t even get me started on those sticky tape dispenser contraptions. They never come with instructions, and threading the tape through them feels like covering yourself in honey and sprinting through sand.

I hate sticky tape. It is the absolute worst.

I feel like a teen but have arranged a birthday dinner weeks ago for myself and a with bunch of friends. The thing that sucks is my birthday is always close to a holiday here, and it's difficult to arrange anything.

The declines started flowing in an had about 10 people say yes - (12 including me and my partner) - and now many of those people are declining after saying yes…. after I booked.

I understand all the reasons but I still can't help but feel sad about it. I'm not upset at anyone - just sad. People say “lets catch up separately” but I don't have the time to meet others individually.

Out of everyone left, There are two people who always bail last minute and 3-4 others coming….. I'm in two minds to just cancel - my partner said to change the date but I can't be bothered.

Would I be the jerk to cancel to avoid further disappointment of more people cancelling?

Because I reckon by Saturday no one will come.
