As we all know, there's a lot of tinker fics and in my opinion, a surprisingly common element seems to be bio minions (sometimes via "it's a master power, not tinker") bs, while rest seem to be robots/drones/AI, cybernetics, power armor + weapons and power replication (or all / any mix of those mentioned)... basically the most common types of tinkering that lot of times ignore the actual rules of tinkering to allow authors to either do whatever they want or copy all the tech in whatever crossover they choose.

It's surprisingly hard to find fics that actually follow rules of tinkering and do not focus on any of the above... like fics that replicate all those super agent gadgets you see in bond movies or forensic gadgets (example, goggles with different visions, gloves with chemical detectors, mask with sonar to map the building etc.) or chemicals that do different stuff (like chem-purse from big hero 6 that honey lemon uses)...

What do you guys think are most overused and least utilized types of tinkering in the fics?

Like the title says, i'm looking for worm fics that crossover with The Thing, be it merely alt-power or actual crossover with locations and/or monster in question. I'll also accept fics that are close to The thing (the titular monster).

NO STARCRAFT ZERG OR W40K TYRANID FICS!!!

Like the title says, i'm looking for fics where Taylor has alt-power somehow involving giant sentient insects. Preferably humanoid (Like bugrom from el-hazard anime) but non-humanoids (like Killik from Star Wars) are acceptable too, as long as they're giant (at minimum a meter / 3 feet height, preferably human sized or above) and sentient, thinking insects.

And yes, I know of Nemesis but that doesn't count.
