Not sure if I have the strength to carry on
All of my colonists were kidnapped except one last night. 1000 in game days and 48 real life hours and we’ve pushed through all kinds of hell before. Everyone was jam packed with bionic replacements, had insanely high skills and in-game years with us. More than a decade even, for some.
Tribals attacked, and in my obstinacy I didn’t micro manage the drafted carefully, foolishly assuming the savages would be cut down like so many chaffs of wheat at the hands of my genetically enhanced super soldiers. They rushed us and overtook us.
The only one left un-captured was Jamie, a ten year old boy. He stands drafted at the edge of the map, pulled prematurely from a medic cycle and sick, having just failed to rescue even one of his compatriots as they slowly exited the screen.
His mother came out of her medic cycle as well, just before I closed the game. She had been driven to become a wild woman after the death of her husband and Jamie’s father a year before, and was being kept imprisoned while we attempted to tame her. Now she runs free and hostile in our empty compound and Jamie stands alone as fire spreads through the crops.
If the AC on the waste pack storages burn, the map will be lost. If the AC on the food stores burn, Jamie will have little chance of survival. I can unpause and send him to fight the fires, but it’s almost a given fact he’ll have a mental break. If those contingencies are somehow survived, he still may have to kill his own mother. On top of all that, the worth of the colony is 150,000 whereabouts, and Phoebe is sure to be merciless again within the next couple quadrants with only Jamie standing guard.
I will not make a new colony yet, I will see this to its bitter end. Just maybe not till after work tomorrow.
