It rings on the hour, every hour as normal. 2 rings at 2 o clock, 6 rings at 6 o clock etc.

But it also rings at 2 minutes past the hour, for the same number of rings.

I’m not complaining, I like the sound of the bells. But I’m curious is there some significance to two minutes after the hour? Is it the exact time in the Vatican or something?
