Amir shows what would happen if Alastor used puppets to talk about his feelings
youtube.comAlastor's Relationship with Niffty as Foreshadowing
As a big fan of Alastor and Niffty's relationship, I have to admit that all the talk by Amir and Erika about Alastor and Charlie having a bond of trust had started to worry me a little. At the moment, the series has not done a lot to show us this bond. This means that the series will have to take the time to establish the bond and its strength for us. This made me worried that Alastor's relationship with Niffty was going to take a backseat to his relationship with Charlie. I felt that would be deeply unfair, since Alastor's bond with Niffty has been centre stage for Seasons 1 and 2. Niffty is the one who did the thing that everyone was expecting Charlie to do and almost ruined his plans by going to save him when he was trying to make a deal with Vox. It just felt like after all of that, it would be deeply unfair to Niffty for Charlie to basically take her place as the one that Alastor has a bond with in the narrative. However, I have been thinking about this scene.
I think that this scene is foreshadowing something important about Alastor. Amir, in his interview about how Alastor's arc in Season 3 is about his goals vs his bonds with Charlie, stated that Alastor would not be an interesting character if he wasn't someone whose plans are capable of being altered by his bonds with others. I see this as a hint that Alastor will end up making changes to his plans for the sake of Charlie in Season 3. However, this isn't something that can just come out of nowhere with a character who has previously been established to be willing to sacrifice everything for his goals without accusations of him being out of character. Unless it is something that he has already been shown to do with another character that it has been established that he cares about. Hence, the scene with him altering his plans for Niffty's safety.
With this in mind, I am now convinced that Alastor's relationship with Niffty will not be cast aside to highlight his relationship with Charlie. Instead, it will be part of highlighting it. I am really looking forward to seeing more of Alastor's relationship/bond with Niffty while he builds one with Charlie.
Just realised that this is an image of Alastor literally lying through his teeth
Alastor was so terrified of Niffty being harmed by a non-angelic weapon that he instinctively altered his plans to protect her. There is no way in hell that he was okay with her dying permanently from an angelic nuke. If Rosie wasn't so worried about her own plans failing, she might have pushed harder on the "you wouldn't dare". But she had no idea how much her recent screw-up had pissed him off and what he was willing to do in retaliation. She couldn't take the risk that he wasn't bluffing.
Screenshots of Alastor's reaction to Niffty in danger
Alastor is terrified when it looks like Niffty might get seriously hurt. It is a pity that a lot of people didn't notice it because of how quickly this moment passes when watching the scene.
Charlie isn't Wrong About Redemption
As someone who has always hated theories about how Alastor is a pure, irredeemable evil character who is going to turn against the hotel and be the final villain, I have always had a variety of reasons why this point of view made no sense to me. However, I have recently come to understand that, beneath many of these theories that Charlie will kick out Alastor and turn on him, lies a disdain for Charlie as a character. Something that I have heard a lot of people with these theories say is that Charlie needs to be taught a lesson that some people are not capable of redemption. They see her as a foolish little girl with silly dreams about redeeming the worst of the worst because she doesn't know any better and needs to be taught a lesson about how wrong she is. These people want Alastor to be the one to finally break her naivety. To force their point of view on her and make her "mature" into someone who agrees with them that some sinners should be classified as irredeemable.
I genuinely believe that anyone who is waiting for the narrative to show that Charlie is wrong about redemption is going to be disappointed. There are a lot of flaws in Charlie's methods that she still needs to work through. She also has a naive understanding of what good and evil entail. Despite this, the narrative has consistently validated her belief in redemption. Season 1 had her prove the validity of her beliefs to heaven. Season 2 proved it to hell. It seems that Season 3 is going to have to prove it to the audience, as there are a lot of people who still doubt her in the audience.
I believe that instead of Alastor acting as proof that Charlie's belief in redemption is flawed, it is going to be what gives more credence to her beliefs. If she can win against Alastor, in his villain arc, purely on the strength of her beliefs, it would change how people understand Charlie's ideals in relation to the narrative. Alastor, who people see as one of the most irredeemable characters on the show, gives more credibility to her position than all that she has done so far. With Sir Pentious and even Angel Dust, they are viewed as "good" by most of the fandom, so it has no impact on their belief that she is wrong about redemption when she helps them become better. Alastor is different. If Charlie can get Alastor to alter his plans because of her and the emotional bond that he builds with her, it would be the ultimate proof that anyone can be redeemed.
I don't think Alastor will get redeemed to heaven. I don't even think that everyone should be redeemed to heaven or that being redeemed to heaven is beneficial to everyone. However, I think redemption as self-improvement is available to all the characters on the show.
Lucifer isn't Alastor's Focus in Season 3
I keep seeing everyone say that Alastor will be focused on Lucifer in Season 3. It seems to be generally accepted as fact, and I understand that it is based on Alastor looking at Lucifer while Charlie says that Alastor seems to have found something to entertain him.
I am not saying that this wasn't a reasonable conclusion to draw. However, I keep wondering why it seems to be the only one.
Around the same time Vivzie's interview came out, in which she hinted at Alastor stepping into a villain role, an interview with Amir about Season 3 was also released. In this much less popular interview (I am amazed by how many people are completely unaware of it), Amir talks about how Alastor wouldn't be an interesting character if he weren't someone whose plans are capable of being impacted by their bonds with other people, before proceeding to talk about Alastor's relationship with Charlie. Concerning Lucifer, this is what Amir had to say about Alastor's relationship with Lucifer in Season 3.
It can therefore be said that Alastor's relationship with Charlie is the focus of Alastor's story arc in Season 3. There has been so much focus on Alastor looking at Lucifer that people seem to have forgotten that he looks at Charlie before he looks at Lucifer.
Erika on Alastor and Charlie in her interview
This was said in response to a question on how Charlie feels about Alastor's use of his favour when dealing with Vox in Season 2. I am looking forward to that bond of trust being built and explored in Season 3.
